This is a new, never used hand-knotted piece in wool with silk highlights, drawn in the classic Tabriz medallion layout and woven on a cotton foundation. The pile is close cropped so the drawing stays crisp, and the silk catches light along the rosettes and vine tips where the weaver placed it deliberately. At 7'9" x 10' it lands squarely in the most useful room footprint in the house, so it works wherever an 8x10 area rug is called for. Design and Motifs

The center holds a layered star medallion: an ivory rosette core on a green ground, ringed by burgundy lobes filled with pink cabbage roses and small black cartouches, then finished top and bottom with hooked pendants. The black field around it is packed with a curving all-over floral system, thin vines carrying palmettes, tulips, fan shaped blossoms and tiny 4 petal flowers, all mirrored precisely across both axes. Burgundy spandrels fill the 4 corners with scrolling arabesque leaves and large boteh shaped leaf forms. The main border runs burgundy with alternating green and black diamond cartouches, each centered on a gold rosette, separated by rose clusters and split leaf scrolls, and it is framed inside and out by ivory guard bands of continuous vine. The drawing stays disciplined at the corners, where the border pattern turns cleanly rather than being cut off.

A Black Field Framed in Burgundy, Green and Ivory

Black is the anchor here, a deep near-charcoal ground that makes every flower read like it is lit from behind. Against it the palette is unusually broad for a formal design: deep burgundy in the medallion, spandrels and main border, sage and forest green in the cartouches and medallion ring, and warm ivory in the guard stripes and rosette centers. The florals bring soft rose pink, apricot, mustard gold, pale blue and cream, which keeps the rug from reading heavy despite the dark field. The silk content sits mostly in the lighter flowers and the ivory outlines, so those details shift between matte and bright as you walk around the room. The ends finish in natural ivory fringe against a black selvage, a clean frame for the whole piece.

Weaving Quality and Where It Was Made

This rug is honestly made in China, woven by hand on a cotton warp and weft in the Tabriz design tradition, which is the pattern vocabulary the workshop is following rather than a claim of origin. The knot count is high enough to carry curved vine work and fine outlining without the lines breaking into steps, which is the real test of any medallion design of this type. Wool takes the field and the structural drawing, silk is reserved for highlights, and the pile has been sheared low so the pattern stays legible.
