Design and Motifs

At the center sits an 8 petal ivory rosette on a soft green ground, ringed by a black cartouche filled with lotus heads, roses and small blue buds. From that core the design steps outward in 3 stages: a lobed black inner frame, a burgundy field densely planted with roses, tulips, carnations and scrolling vines, and 2 black pendant cartouches set on the vertical axis. The field is a true all-over composition rather than open ground, so there is no empty area anywhere in the circle. The border is the part a collector looks at first: a black main band carrying alternating green palmette cusps and pink rose clusters joined by heavy gold arabesque scrolls, with a small ruby diamond rosette set between each pair, then an ivory guard band of delicate flowering vine on both edges.
