8' x 10' Indian Ziegler Rug | Sage Green All Over Floral Design | Hand-Knotted Wool, Brand New

This 8' x 10' Ziegler is a quiet rug that rewards a second look. The field is a muted sage green, drawn with a loose lattice of vines carrying palmettes, serrated leaves and small eight petal rosettes, and the whole thing sits inside a generous tan border that lightens the piece considerably. It is a brand new, never used hand-knotted Oriental rug in perfect condition, with wool pile on a cotton foundation, and it ships with our certificate of authenticity. At 96" x 120" it is one of the most usable proportions we carry, and it sits comfortably alongside our other 8x10 hand-knotted rugs.

Please Note About the Photographs:

These photos were taken under different lighting, so the green field reads cooler and lighter in the full overhead shot and warmer in the close-ups. The angled floor views and the pile close-ups are the truest record of the color. The pile itself is even throughout, with no wear, no fading and no repairs.

Design and Motifs

The drawing is a classic Ziegler all over scheme: no central medallion, just an open repeat that reads the same from every chair in the room. Slender vines arc across the field in staggered rows and anchor four kinds of blossom, broad golden palmettes with ivory centers, squared raspberry rosettes, curling leaf forms filled with pale cream, and small star flowers scattered in the ground between them. Down the center line sit a pair of small brown cypress and bud figures, the kind of informal village touch that keeps a repeat pattern from feeling mechanical. The border system runs three deep: a narrow rust guard stripe, then the wide tan main band carrying brown and red rosettes on thin stems with green leaf cartouches at the midpoints, then a green outer band that ties back to the field. Corners are resolved cleanly on all 4 sides.

A Study in Sage Green and Tan

The field green is soft and slightly grayed, closer to sage and moss than to emerald, and it is abrashed in gentle horizontal bands that catch the light differently as you walk around the rug. Against it the palette stays warm and low contrast: dusty terracotta and rust in the vines, wheat and apricot gold in the palmettes, a few deep raspberry accents, brown in the central figures and the border rosettes, and ivory used sparingly as a highlight inside flower heads. The wide border is a pale tan with a faint blush cast, which is what makes the green look deeper than it actually is. This is a forgiving color story for a room with oak floors, cream walls or leather furniture, and it sits among the more livable green area rugs we stock because nothing in it shouts.

Made in India: Weaving and Quality

India is where most of the world's good contemporary hand-knotted work is now made, and this rug is a fair example of why. The knotting is regular and tight, visible in the back photo where the rows run straight and the pattern reads clearly from the reverse, and the wool is handspun with enough lanolin left in it to give the surface a soft sheen rather than a flat finish. The pile is cut at a medium height on a cotton foundation, dense enough to stand up to a dining table or a busy living room without crushing. Selvedges are wrapped evenly and the ivory fringe is full and untouched. Ziegler designs in this style are woven slowly with a limited, naturally muted dye range, which is why a new rug like this already looks settled rather than raw.

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
