Design and Motifs

There is no medallion here. The field carries a full all-over floral design, a lattice of thin scrolling vines that opens repeatedly into broad palmettes, serrated leaves and small 8 petal rosettes, with cloud band scrolls curling between them. The repeat is generous and loosely drawn in the Ziegler manner, so the pattern reads as movement rather than as a grid, and it holds up when furniture covers part of the surface. The main border sets large ivory and gold palmettes with tiny burgundy leaf sprays against a deep wine ground, and each corner resolves cleanly rather than cutting a motif in half.
