This is a brand new, never used Chobi Ziegler in a genuine oversize 12x15 format, hand-knotted in Peshawar with a natural wool pile on a cotton foundation. At 11'8" x 14'8" it covers a full great room or a long formal dining space without seams or compromise, and the drawing is deliberately restrained: a soft light green ground, a wide beige gold border, and gold palmettes drifting across the field on thin vines. The wool is hand-spun and lightly lustrous, so the color shifts gently as you walk the length of it, and the pile is cut low enough that chair legs and doors clear it easily. Design and Motifs

The field carries a classic Ziegler all-over floral design, drawn open and spacious rather than crowded. Large lotus palmettes sit on a lattice of curling vines, each one flanked by long serrated leaves that sweep outward like scimitars, with small 8 petal rosettes and tiny star flowers filling the gaps between them. The repeat runs the length of the rug in offset rows, so the eye keeps moving and no single motif dominates, and the pattern reads as a continuous garden rather than a medallion composition. There is no central medallion at all, which is exactly why a design like this works under furniture: a sofa or a 12 seat table can sit anywhere on the field without cutting the drawing in half. The main border repeats paired palmettes and leaf sprays on a gold ground, framed by a narrow reciprocal sawtooth stripe on the inner edge and a small rosette vine on the outer, and the whole thing is closed by a plain light green outer band that picks the field color back up at the very edge.

The Light Green, Beige and Gold Palette

The ground is a muted light green with a soft grey-sage undertone, streaked with the gentle abrash that comes from hand-spun, small-batch dyed wool. Against it the pattern is worked in layered warm neutrals: pale cream at the palmette centers, deepening through wheat and honey into a true gold on the leaves and vine scrolls, with occasional camel and light tan shading that gives the flowers dimension. The wide border is a warmer beige gold, a full step lighter and warmer than the field, which is what makes the green read as green instead of as grey. The only sharp color in the whole rug is the accent: thin coral red outlines and small red rosette hearts, scattered sparingly through the field and the border, plus a few small pale sage leaves tucked into the border flowers. The narrow sawtooth guard stripe is drawn in apricot gold. The overall effect is quiet and slightly faded from the day it was finished, the kind of low-contrast palette that sits under a pale oak floor, a linen sofa or a painted plaster wall without fighting anything.

Peshawar Weaving and the Ziegler Tradition

Peshawar, in northwest Pakistan, is today one of the most important centers of fine hand-knotted work anywhere, and the Chobi Ziegler is its signature product. The name Ziegler comes from the 19th century trading house that commissioned open, softly colored floral schemes for Western drawing rooms, and Peshawar workshops have made that vocabulary their own using hand-spun wool, natural and low-saturation dyes, and a deliberate light wash that takes the newness off the surface. Chobi means "wood tone", a reference to the muted browns, golds and greens of exactly this kind of palette. The back of this piece, seen in the fold photograph, shows a tidy and consistent knot count with clean, even rows across all 140 inches of width, tight selvages and hand-tied fringe, which is the real test on a rug this large: an oversize piece exposes every irregularity in tension, and this one lies flat and square.
