This is a brand new, never used Ziegler Chobi from Peshawar, hand-knotted in fine wool on a cotton foundation with a dense 1/4" pile. At 11'8" x 15' it covers a genuinely large floor, the kind of footprint that swallows a long sofa run or a 10 seat dining table without the furniture ever stepping off the field, and it sits squarely in the group of oversize rugs that most showrooms simply do not stock. The drawing is relaxed rather than formal: big palmettes and curling acanthus leaves float over an open burgundy ground, held inside a wide ivory border of lotus heads. Handling it, the wool feels heavy and slightly waxy, with the lanolin still in it, which is exactly what you want in a floor piece this size. Design and Motifs

There is no central medallion here. The field carries a classic all over floral repeat built on a loose vine lattice, with large crowned palmettes running up the centre line, broad serrated leaves reaching from the corners, and small 8 petal rosettes and buds filling the gaps between them. The spacing is generous, so the burgundy ground stays visible and the pattern never turns busy, which is the whole point of the Ziegler idiom: a traditional drawing, loosened and opened up so it works under modern furniture. The main border repeats an upright lotus palmette alternating with a flowering sprig, separated by slender vine guards and two narrow barber pole stripes on each side. Look at the corners in the detail photos and you will see the weaver resolved the border turn cleanly, which on a rug 15' long is a real test of the cartoon and the loom crew.

A Burgundy Field With Sage, Coral and Ivory

The ground is a deep burgundy that leans toward oxblood in daylight and toward plum in the close-ups, with the gentle tonal movement through the field that comes from hand-spun yarn taking dye at slightly different rates. Against it the floral heads are worked in soft sage and celadon green, butter ivory, pale gold and muted coral, colours that read chalky and antique rather than bright, so the contrast is warm instead of sharp. The wide border is a creamy ivory, close to unbleached wool, with its lotus blossoms picked out in the same green and coral family plus small touches of deep brown and rust that anchor the pattern. Fine vine tendrils in a faded rose trace across the burgundy ground and tie the whole surface together.
