8'9" x 12' Chobi Ziegler Peshawar Rug | Beige & Gold All-Over Floral | Hand-Knotted Natural Wool

This is a brand new, never used 8'9" x 12' Chobi Ziegler in the Peshawar tradition, hand-knotted one knot at a time in natural wool on a cotton foundation. It is a quiet, confident piece: a soft beige field carrying an all-over garden of gold and apricot blossoms, framed by a generous acanthus border that gives the rug real presence without shouting. The pile is dense and takes light beautifully, shifting from pale honey to deeper gold as you walk around it, and the weave is even and flat enough to sit comfortably under furniture. Design and Motifs

There is no central medallion here. Instead the weaver worked a repeating all-over floral layout: large lotus palmettes and open rosettes, 8 petal and 10 petal, strung along thin curling vines that travel corner to corner across the field. Between the big blossoms sit smaller buds, split leaves and tiny 4 petal crosses that keep the empty ground from ever looking bare. The main border is the signature element, a wide run of curved acanthus leaves and half palmettes drawn at a larger scale than the field so the eye reads the frame first, with narrow rosette guard stripes on either side and a small repeating floret minor border at the outer edge. The drawing is deliberately relaxed rather than mathematically rigid, which is exactly what collectors look for in Ziegler work, and the design runs edge to edge so the rug still reads correctly with a sofa or dining table covering part of it.

A Warm Beige, Gold and Rust Palette

The field is a soft beige that reads closer to sand or light wheat in daylight, with faint abrash banding across the width that proves the wool was dyed in small lots. The florals are worked in layered golds: pale straw for the outer petals, warmer apricot and marigold through the centers, and a clear rust or terracotta used sparingly for outlines, flower hearts and the small cross figures. Touches of sage green and a muted olive appear in the leaf work and vine shading, cooling the palette just enough to keep it from turning orange. The wide border shifts to a deeper golden ground so the ivory acanthus leaves stand out in relief, and the outer edge closes with rust guard lines against natural ivory cotton fringe. It is a warm, low-contrast neutral scheme that sits easily with oak, walnut, cream upholstery and brass, and it will not fight existing artwork.

Peshawar Weaving and Chobi Quality

Chobi Ziegler rugs are woven in and around Peshawar in northwest Pakistan, where workshops adopted the 19th century Ziegler drawing style and paired it with highland wool and softened, muted dye recipes. Chobi simply means wood, a reference to the plant and wood based dyes that give these rugs their mellow, pre-aged tone straight off the loom. The back photo shows a clean, regular knot grid with no crowding or skipped rows, and the pile has been sheared low and level, which is what makes this weave so practical in a busy room.
