9'1" x 12' Chobi Peshawar Ziegler Rug | Sage Green All-Over Floral | Hand-Knotted Natural Wool

This is a brand new, never used Chobi Peshawar in the Ziegler manner, hand-knotted at 9'1" x 12' in natural wool on a cotton foundation with a short 1/4" clip. The field is a quiet sage green, drawn over with large open floral forms in beige, tan and faded gold, and the wide ivory main border carries the same soft drawing at a bigger scale. It is the kind of piece decorators reach for when the room already has enough going on: calm, light, and large enough to anchor a full seating group without competing with it. Every rug we sell ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming it is a genuine hand-knotted Oriental rug, with its size, materials and origin recorded.

Please Note About the Photographs:

The faint vertical line visible down the centre of the field in the overhead photos is a fold shadow from pallet storage. It is not wear, not fade and not damage, it relaxes once the rug is laid flat, and every rug is professionally steamed and pressed before it leaves our warehouse.

Design and Motifs

The drawing is classic Ziegler: a generous all-over floral design with no medallion, so the pattern reads evenly from every side of the room and nothing is lost under a coffee table. Broad angular palmettes and 8 petal rosettes sit on a loose vine lattice, linked by serrated leaf sprays and small cruciform blossoms, with the scale kept deliberately large and the spacing open. The composition is mirrored along the long axis rather than mechanically repeated, so individual flowers shift in size and colour as the eye moves down the field. A narrow ivory guard stripe lifts the field away from the wide main border, where split palmettes and heart-shaped boteh forms alternate with small square cartouches, and a slim sage outer band closes the whole thing off against the plain ivory fringe.

A Muted Sage and Beige Palette

Colour is the real argument for this rug. The ground is a soft, dusty sage green, slightly greyed rather than bright, with gentle abrash that makes the field breathe across its width instead of sitting flat. The flowers are worked in warm beige and oatmeal, with faded gold and apricot in the rosette centres and tan outlines holding the shapes together. Look closely at the field and you find pale grey-blue used for leaf sprays and vine tips, plus the faintest blush pink inside a few blossoms, which keeps the neutral scheme from turning cold. The main border is a creamy ivory to light tan, so the border reads lighter than the field and visually widens the rug. Against pale oak, limestone or grey plank flooring it stays quiet; against walnut and warm whites the gold notes come forward.

Peshawar Weaving and Quality

Chobi takes its name from the wood-based vegetable dyes the Peshawar workshops of northern Pakistan use for exactly this muted, softly aged look, and those workshops have become the main source of good large-format hand-knotted floor rugs for Western interiors. This one is woven entirely by hand on a cotton foundation, with the wool clipped short at 1/4" so the pattern stays crisp and the rug lies flat under furniture. The back view shows a tight, even knot across the full width with no distortion at the ends, and the sides and fringe are clean and square, which is what you want to see in a 9x12 room-size rug that has to stay true across nearly 12 feet. The highland wool here is dense and lightly lustrous, the type that burnishes rather than matts as it is walked on, so this rug will settle in and look better in 10 years than it does today.

Ask about this rug

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
