The field is a soft sage green, quiet enough to read as a neutral from across a room, and it is framed by a broad beige border that carries the pattern out to the edges without ever raising its voice. Handling it tells you most of what you need to know: the pile is even, the selvedges are tight, the back is flat and regular, and the rug has never been on a floor. Design and Motifs

The drawing is a classic Ziglar composition: an all over floral design built on a lattice of thick, slow-curving vines that carry large palmettes, 8 petal rosettes and split leaves across the whole field. There is no medallion. Instead the pattern repeats on a generous scale, with the major palmettes spaced far enough apart that furniture can sit on the rug without crowding the drawing. Small serrated leaves and buds fill the ground between the main blossoms, and a handful of tiny red flowerheads are scattered through the field as accents, visible in the detail shots. The wide main border repeats a turtle-palmette and rosette rhythm against beige, separated from the field by a narrow guard stripe of paired hooks and small squares, then finished with a second thin outer guard. The 4 corners are resolved cleanly, with the corner rosettes matching the border repeat rather than being cut off, which is a sign the design was planned to the full 13' x 17'8" rather than improvised at the ends.

A Sage Green and Beige Palette
