Design and Motifs

The field carries a balanced all-over floral design built on a lattice of thin curling vines. Large open palmettes alternate with 8 petal rosettes and octagonal blossoms outlined in rust brown, and between them sit small serrated leaves, split arabesques and single cross flowers that keep the ground from ever reading empty. The drawing is deliberately soft edged: outlines are drawn in a slightly darker tone rather than a contrasting color, so the pattern reveals itself gradually as you walk past.
