8' x 10' Jaipur Oriental Rug | Traditional Medallion & All-Over Floral | Dense Fine Weave, Never Used

This 8' x 10' rug was hand-knotted in Jaipur on a cotton foundation, and the first thing you notice when you handle it is the density. The pile is clipped low, the knots are small and regular, and the drawing holds fine detail that a coarser weave would smear. The field is a warm beige worked in olive green, rust and brown, and the piece is brand new, never used and never walked on. It belongs with the better traditional 8x10 Oriental rugs without pretending to be an antique, and if you want the terminology sorted out, our guide explains exactly what separates a Persian rug from an Oriental rug. It ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming the rug is genuinely hand-knotted.

Design and Motifs

The layout is a classical medallion and panel composition. At the center sits a lobed, star-pointed medallion filled with scrolling salmon and olive arabesque work around a solid olive core, and from there the field breaks into interlocking cartouche-shaped compartments outlined by a single thin ivory line. Each compartment carries its own bouquet: a palmette, a boteh paisley, a leafy 8 petal rosette, a split-leaf spray. At arm's length the field reads as a lattice, and up close it reads as dozens of separate small drawings. Paired rust red cloudband arabesques sit on the vertical axis above and below the medallion, the largest single shapes in the field and the elements that keep the pattern moving instead of static. The main border runs on a camel ground with alternating rosettes and palmettes joined by a continuous vine, flanked on both sides by narrow rust brown guard stripes repeating the same vocabulary in miniature. All 4 corners resolve cleanly where border meets border, a drafting test plenty of all-over designs fail.

Beige Field with Olive Green, Rust and Brown

The ground is a soft beige that photographs cooler under the overhead shots and distinctly warmer in the low-angle and close-up frames. Over it the palette works in three main registers: olive and sage green through the leaves and palmette interiors, rust and terracotta in the cloudbands and panel outlines, and a deeper walnut brown in the heavier scrollwork. The medallion brings in salmon and peach, the small rosettes drop in hits of brick red, and at close range you find flecks of teal, pale sky blue and cream inside the flower heads, the sort of detail that only survives at this knot density. The border shifts to a camel tan that frames the field without fighting it, bounded by rust brown stripes that pull the whole thing together. Among beige and ivory Oriental rugs this one leans warm rather than grey, so it settles easily with wood tones, leather, brass and cream upholstery.

Jaipur Weaving and the Quality of the Knot

Jaipur in Rajasthan is one of the few centers still turning out hand-knotted work at this standard in real quantity, and India is now where most of the world's good contemporary hand-knotted weaving is made. The looms, the controlled dyeing and the trained weavers are all there, and the cartoons being drawn from are the classical ones. This piece sits at the fine end of that output rather than the commercial end: cotton foundation, wool pile, and knotting that stays dense and even across the full 80 square feet, with the back and fringe photos showing tight regular rows and no slack. The handle is firm, the pile is low enough that the drawing stays crisp underfoot, and at 8' x 10' it covers a full seating group or a dining table with chairs pulled out. Anyone comparing hand-knotted Oriental rugs in this size will find this one is putting more work into every square inch than most of what it will be shown against.

Ask about this rug

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
