8' x 11' Jaldar Oriental Rug | Sea Green Diamond Gul Field | Never Used

This is a brand new, never used Jaldar woven in Pakistan, and the thing that stops you first is the colour: a calm sea green field, unusual in hand-knotted work and much harder to find than the standard red or ivory. The back tag confirms 100% wool pile over a cotton foundation, and the weave is the fine, neat, tightly packed kind that holds the small geometric drawing crisply at every edge. At 8x11 rug size it covers a full seating group or sits under a dining table for 8 with chairs pulled back, and the exact 8' x 11' footprint reads as generous without crowding a standard room. Every rug we ship carries our certificate of authenticity.

Please Note About the Photographs:

The pale vertical band along the right side of the overhead photo and the faint soft lines across the field are camera lighting and fold marks from flat pallet storage. They are not wear, not fade and not damage. They relax once the rug is laid flat, and every rug is professionally steamed and pressed before it ships.

Design and Motifs

The Jaldar layout is a strict all-over lattice, and this piece runs two alternating gul forms down the field: a wide stepped diamond with a tiny rosette at its heart, and a narrower hooked gul with four little arrow finials, each one outlined in dark brown so the shape stays sharp against the open ground. Small cruciform and dart fillers sit in the spaces between, keeping the repeat tight without turning it busy. The frame is built from 7 separate bands, which is where the quality shows: an ivory main border of linked rosettes and 8 petal stars, a green guard stripe carrying its own row of stepped diamonds, and several pinstripe bands of X motifs and tiny lozenges stacked between them. It is a disciplined, fully geometric rug design, drawn entirely in straight lines and steps, with the end borders finishing in a stepped skirt that gives the whole field a clear top and bottom.

The Green Field and Its Palette

The ground is a soft sea green, somewhere between jade and a muted teal, and because the wool takes light well the field shifts a shade lighter or deeper depending on which way the pile runs. Against it the guls are worked in ivory and cream, shaded outward into rose pink and salmon, with dark brown and near black outlines doing the structural work. Look closely at the close-up photographs and you will find pale light blue, grey blue and small touches of gold ochre inside the medallions, plus a clear brick red that repeats through all the border bands. The main borders turn the palette over: ivory and blush become the ground there, with green, red and gold as the accents, so the frame reads warm and the centre reads cool. That green and blush combination is the reason this rug sells itself in a room, and it is why we list it among our green Oriental rugs rather than filing it with the traditional reds.

Jaldar Weaving in Pakistan

Jaldar is the house name for the fine diamond gul design woven by the Pakistani workshops that descend from the Turkmen weaving tradition, and the better ones are judged on two things: knot count and the neatness of the small motifs. This one is the fine neat grade, with a close, even weave, tidy flat selvages and straight hand-tied cotton fringe at both ends, as the corner photographs show. The back tag reads "100% Wool Pile, Genuine Hand Knotted Carpets, Made in Pakistan", and carries the workshop piece number, which is normal for workshop output of this level. Pakistan has been one of the most consistent sources of good hand-knotted work for decades, and a clean, unwalked example like this one is exactly what a buyer wants if the plan is to own the rug for 30 years rather than 5. If you are weighing it against other traditional options, our guide on Oriental rugs explains how the categories differ in weave, wool and drawing.

Ask about this rug

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
