9'1" x 11'10" Modern Indian Wool Rug | Solid Lavender Tonal Stripe Field | Brand New

This is a quiet rug that does a lot of work. Measuring 9'1" x 11'10", it is hand-knotted entirely in wool on a cotton foundation, with no medallion, no border and no pattern to compete with furniture: just a continuous lavender field that shifts tone as the light moves across it. The pile is cut low and dense, which is why the surface reads almost like raw silk in the photographs while still feeling like wool underfoot. It is brand new and never used, one of the cleanest ways to anchor a large room without introducing another visual element, and it sits comfortably among our modern and contemporary rugs as well as the broader 9x12 rugs we keep in stock. Every rug we sell ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming it is genuinely hand-knotted.

Please Note About the Photographs:

The faint diagonal lines and soft shadows across the field in a few of the images are fold marks and camera shadow from pallet storage. They are not wear, not fading and not damage. They relax out once the rug is laid flat, and every rug is professionally steamed and pressed before it leaves our warehouse.

Design and Motifs

There is no drawn motif here, and that is the point. The design is built from yarn rather than pattern: two closely related shades of wool, a pale lilac and a deeper violet, are alternated knot by knot so the field breaks into hundreds of fine vertical striations. Seen from across the room they blend into one soft lavender plane. Seen from a few feet away, as in the close-up images, the striping and the gentle abrash-style banding become obvious and give the surface its movement. The rug runs edge to edge with no border, no spandrels and no corner resolution, finished only with a tightly overcast side cord in the same lavender tone and a plain end finish. For a buyer who already owns a patterned sofa, patterned drapes or a strong art collection, this kind of borderless tonal field is usually the correct answer. It is also the reason this modern Oriental rug photographs so differently depending on the angle of the camera.

The Color in Detail: Lavender, Lilac and Soft Ivory

The overall reading is lavender, a cool mid purple with a grey cast rather than a pink one. Up close the field is clearly two-tone. The lighter yarn is a chalky lilac that reads almost soft ivory where the pile catches the light, and the darker yarn is a true violet, closer to amethyst in the shadows. Where the two run side by side the eye mixes them into the single heather tone you see in the full-length shots. The back of the rug, visible in the final image, is noticeably paler, a greyed lilac that shows how much of the depth comes from the cut pile rather than the dye itself. Tone also changes with direction: lay the rug one way and it looks dusty and soft, turn it 180 degrees and the violet comes forward. The original workshop tag records the colour as light purple, which is a fair description. It is an easy color to live with against white walls, warm oak, grey stone or brass, and it belongs with our other pink and purple rugs.

Origin and Weaving Quality: Made in India

This rug was made in India, and that is a strength rather than a compromise. India's hand-knotting belt is where most of the world's good contemporary hand-knotted work is now produced, and the workshops there have become the specialists in exactly this kind of piece: solid and tonal fields, large room sizes, controlled dye lots and an even, disciplined knot line across 11 feet 10 inches of length with no wandering edges. Consistency is the hardest part of a plain rug, because there is no pattern to hide a dye break or a loose row, and the weave here holds true from end to end. The pile is close-clipped wool on a cotton foundation, which gives a flat, stable rug that lies quietly under furniture, takes a vacuum well and does not shed pattern distortion the way a thicker pile can. New, perfect and never walked on, it is a modern rug built to be used in a real room rather than kept for display.
