9'10" x 14'1" Transitional Oriental Rug | Coral Rosette Vine Field | Hand-Knotted Wool, Brand New

This is a brand new, never used hand-knotted rug measuring 9'10" x 14'1", woven in wool on a cotton foundation and built to cover a full living room or a long dining table with chairs pulled out. The drawing is deliberately quiet: a single band of flowering rosette vines fills the center, then stops, leaving a broad expanse of plain coral wool on all 4 sides in place of a patterned border. That restraint is what makes it work in a contemporary interior, and it puts this piece squarely in the useful part of the 10x14 rug range where most large rooms land. Every rug we ship carries a certificate of authenticity confirming that it is hand-knotted, along with its size, materials and origin.

Design and Motifs

The center panel is an all-over design of round rosettes, each one drawn as a many petaled blossom set inside a beaded ring, rising on short stems flanked by serrated saw-tooth leaves. The rosettes sit in offset rows so the eye reads a gentle lattice rather than a rigid grid, and the leaf tips of one row lock into the row above it to close the field. Along the bottom edge of the panel the vines finish as a row of upright flowering sprigs, like a garden border seen from above, which gives the composition a clear top and bottom. There is no medallion, no cartouche and no formal border band: the pattern simply ends and the plain field takes over. Close up, as in the macro shots, you can see the outlining in dark brown and deep red that holds every petal in shape, the mark of a careful weaver following a detailed cartoon.

A Coral Field With Beige and Gold Blossoms

The ground is coral, a warm red-orange that leans toward terracotta in the open border and deepens to brick under the pattern where the darker outlines crowd together. It is not a flat color: the wool carries a soft horizontal striation from the dye lots, visible in the corner and edge photographs, which keeps a field this large alive instead of looking printed. Against it the blossoms run from pale beige and cream at the flower heads out through honey gold and apricot at the petal edges, with olive and soft brown shading the leaves and stems. The contrast is medium rather than sharp, so the rug reads as one warm glowing surface from across a room and only separates into individual flowers as you walk onto it. Ivory fringe at both ends and the natural sheen of the wool finish the palette.

Hand-Knotted in India

India is where most of the world's best contemporary hand-knotted weaving is done today, and this piece shows why: even knotting across nearly 10 feet of width, straight selvages, a flat lie with no buckling, and long staple wool with enough lanolin left in it to take light the way the photographs show. The back, seen in the folded corner shot, is clean and regular, with the knot rows legible and the cotton warps tightly packed. Work like this belongs in the same conversation as any good Oriental rug, and its pared back drawing places it comfortably among modern and contemporary hand-knotted rugs rather than strictly traditional ones. At 9'10" x 14'1" it is a heavy rug, and it still ships free to all 50 states.

Ask about this rug

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
