Design and Motifs

There is no central medallion. The field runs as an open all over lattice of large ivory palmettes, small 8 petal rosettes and long serrated leaves, linked by a thin vine that curls back on itself into hook shaped scrolls. The drawing is deliberately loose, with generous field space between each element, which is what separates the Ziegler idiom from denser city patterns. The wide ivory main border alternates angular flowering vessels with upright cypress style leaf forms, framed by 2 narrow sage guard stripes and a plain outer band.
