9' x 12'9" European Transitional Rug | Goldish Brown & Ivory All Over Floral | New, Low Pile Wool

This 9' x 12'9" rug is a European workshop piece, hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation and finished with a deliberately low, even pile that keeps the drawing clean and the surface easy to live with. It reads as a decorator's rug rather than a traditional one: a warm goldish brown ground, a single ivory floral system running wall to wall, and no border at all, so the pattern simply stops at the edge the way a printed textile would. At 108 inches by 153 inches it covers a full seating group or a 10 seat dining table, which puts it squarely among large room size rugs, and it is new and never used. Every rug we ship travels with a certificate of authenticity confirming the hand-knotted construction, materials and origin.

Please Note About the Photographs:

A few of the floor photos show faint straight crease lines across the width. Those are fold marks from rolled and stacked storage, not wear, not fading and not damage. They relax out once the rug is laid flat, and every rug leaves our Freeport warehouse professionally steamed and pressed.

Design and Motifs

The drawing is a true all over design: broad ivory palmettes with serrated leaf tips alternate with open rosettes, and curling tendrils link one unit to the next so the field builds into a loose damask lattice. Two rosette types carry the rhythm, a plain cream daisy of roughly 12 petals and a larger 8 petal rosette shaded in sage and blue grey with a pale pink center, and small 5 petal blossoms fill the gaps between them. Everything is mirrored down the vertical axis, which gives the composition the symmetry of a classic textile while the silhouettes stay broad, flat and modern. There is no medallion, no spandrel and no border, only a narrow plain goldish brown margin where the pattern runs off the edge, a hallmark of the best modern and contemporary rugs because it lets the rug sit under furniture without visually boxing the room in.

A Goldish Brown Field with Ivory, Cream and Soft Sage

The ground is a warm goldish brown that moves between caramel and honey depending on where the light falls, with the gentle tonal variation you only get from hand-dyed wool rather than printed color. Against it the floral system is worked in two close neutrals, a cool ivory for the leaves and tendrils and a creamier, slightly pinkish white in the flower petals, so the pattern separates clearly without ever turning stark. The accents are the quiet part of the palette: muted sage green and pale blue grey rings inside the larger rosettes, touches of soft yellow, and occasional pink flecks in the smaller blossoms. It is a neutral rug with real warmth, which is why it works so easily with cream upholstery, walnut furniture and dark hardwood, and it belongs with the softer brown and camel rugs rather than anything high contrast.

European Origin and Hand-Knotted Quality

Made in Europe and knotted entirely by hand, this is a studio weave aimed at interior designers: the cartoon is drawn in a contemporary vocabulary, but the construction follows the same loom discipline as any traditional Oriental rug. The folded corner photo shows the proof: straight, evenly spaced knot rows across the back, a flat selvage, and the pattern reading as crisply from the reverse as from the pile side, with no stretching or pulled lines over a 12'9" length. The pile is clipped low on purpose, which sharpens the outlines of the palmettes, keeps chairs sliding easily at a dining table, and means the rug will not crush or shade the way a deep pile does. Wool at this clip height also wears slowly and vacuums clean in minutes, so a rug this size stays presentable in a room that gets used every day.

Ask about this rug

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
