9' x 12' Indian Oriental Rug | Coral Antique Floral Design | Black Border | Never Used

This is a hand-knotted wool room-size rug in a coral and black antique floral reproduction, measuring 9' x 12' and completely unused. Every knot was tied by hand on a cotton foundation, and the pile is 100% natural wool, dense enough that the drawing stays crisp when you run a hand across it. Of all the Oriental rug formats we stock, this one is the workhorse, and among our 9x12 Oriental rugs the coral ground makes it unusually easy to build a room around. It ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming the hand-knotted construction, materials and origin, and the original woven back label and shop tag shown in the photographs stay with the rug.

Design and Motifs

The field carries a full all-over floral repeat rather than a central medallion, built from large lobed rosettes, broad serrated palmettes, arched blossom sprays and small cartouche panels, all tied together by a thin scrolling vine. The drawing is mirrored on both axes, so the design reads the same from either end of the room, with a single 8 petal rosette marking the exact center. The main border sits on a black ground and runs an alternating rhythm of oversize gold palmettes and clustered leaf sprays, framed on both sides by sage green guard stripes filled with tiny flower heads and hooked brackets. The corners resolve cleanly, which is the tell of a design woven from a proper cartoon rather than improvised at the loom.

Coral, Black, Sage Green and Gold

The ground is a warm coral, closer to terracotta than to pink, and it shifts subtly across the width the way a hand-spun wool field should, from a slightly deeper rust near the ends to a lighter salmon tone through the middle. Against that, the border reads as a deep black with a navy cast, giving the rug a hard frame that keeps the warm field from going soft. The pattern work is drawn mostly in sage green, antique gold and ivory, with accents of pale sky blue in the palmette interiors, brick red outlines inside the border blossoms and small touches of dark brown and inky blue in the leaf tips. The ivory fringe and the coral kilim end finish the piece. It is a palette for rooms with wood tones, brass, cream walls or deep green upholstery.

Made in India: Weaving and Quality

This rug was hand-knotted in India, which is where most of the world's best contemporary hand-knotted work is now produced. The weaving centers there have spent decades reproducing classical antique floral cartoons at a quality level that holds up under daily use, and this piece shows it: a tight, even back with straight rows, firm selvages, well-struck wefts and a level clip across the whole 108 inch width. The wool is the real story, a natural, lanolin-rich fleece that takes dye deeply and will burnish rather than dull as the pile settles. At 9' x 12' it covers a standard living room or seats a dining table of 8 with room to pull the chairs back, and because it has never been used, the pile still carries its full original height.
