10' x 14'3" Persian Kashan Rug | Ivory Field with Olive Border | All Over Floral, Recent Weave
A room-filling city weave in the calmest palette Kashan produces. This 10' x 14'3" rug carries a soft ivory ground worked edge to edge with blue and olive flowering vines, a pale sky blue medallion floating at the center, and a wide grey-olive main border. The wool is dense, smooth and lustrous under the light, and the drawing holds its precision from the medallion all the way out to the fringe. It belongs to the group of 10x14 Persian rugs that cover a full living or dining room without crowding the walls. Every rug we ship carries a certificate of authenticity confirming its origin, materials and hand-knotted construction.
Please Note About the Photographs:
A few of the floor photos show pale bands and soft shadows across the pile. Those are fold marks and nap shading from storage and handling, not wear, not fading and not damage. They relax once the rug is laid flat, and every rug is professionally steamed and pressed before it leaves our warehouse.
Design and Motifs
The layout is the classic Kashan compromise between medallion and repeat: a lobed central medallion with an 8 petal rosette at its core, set into a field that never stops flowering. Thin brown vine stems arc across the ivory ground and carry lotus palmettes, split leaves, serrated saz foliage and small five petal blossoms in mirrored pairs, so the pattern reads as a true all over floral field rather than an empty ground with a motif dropped in the middle. Small pendants finish the medallion at top and bottom, and the 4 corners repeat its foliage in quarter form. The main border runs a steady rhythm of large blue palmettes alternating with smaller rosettes and buds, fenced by ivory guard stripes drawn with a fine meandering vine. Count the detail in the close-ups: each palmette carries 3 or 4 separate blues before the outline is even added.
The Ivory, Olive and Blue Palette
The field is a warm ivory, closer to unbleached cream than white, which is what gives the blues their depth. Those blues run through the full range: deep navy in the heaviest palmettes, mid cornflower in the rosettes, and a soft powder blue that fills the medallion and repeats in scattered leaves across the field. The medallion itself sits on a muted grey-olive ground, echoing the main border, which is a dusty olive green that looks sage in daylight and browner under lamplight. Accents do the rest of the work: olive and moss green leaves, warm gold and saffron flower centers, cinnamon and brown vine lines, and small flashes of brick red and rose that keep the surface from going cool. The overall effect is quiet and light, a large rug that brightens a room instead of anchoring it in red.
Kashan: The Weaving Town and the Quality
Kashan sits in central Persia, north of Isfahan, and has been a workshop town since the Safavid court commissioned carpets there in the 16th century. That history is why Persian Kashan rugs are the shape most people picture when they picture a Persian rug: when you watch Shark Tank there is a Persian Kashan on the floor. The weavers work on a cotton foundation with soft, lustrous local wool, at a knot count fine enough to carry the curved line and flowing vine work you see here without the drawing breaking down. This piece is a recent weave in perfect condition, with full even pile, tight selvedges and clean original fringe, which means a buyer gets the classic city-workshop drawing and decades of life ahead of it rather than a rug already halfway through its service.
