This is a brand new, never used abstract woven entirely by hand, and at 11'11" x 14'7" it covers a full great room or an open plan living and dining space without a seam or a repeat. The wool pile is knotted on a cotton foundation, clipped low so the drawing stays crisp, and the whole field reads like a weathered painted wall: gray and ivory ground broken up by drifting patches of denim blue, bright turquoise, apple green and taupe. It belongs in the same conversation as the best oversize area rugs we carry, and it ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming it is hand-knotted, not machine made, not tufted.

Design and Motifs

There is no border and no medallion here. The design, numbered 1511 on the weaver's tag, is a single all-over abstract composition built from thousands of small irregular blocks of color that break apart and reassemble across the field, the way old paint flakes off plaster or a river delta shows up on an aerial photograph. Horizontal striations run through the gray and olive passages, while on the right side of the rug a long vertical run of turquoise and teal drips downward like water, giving the eye a clear direction to follow in a big room. Because the shapes are pixelated rather than curved, the weavers changed color knot by knot from a graphed cartoon, which is why the transitions look soft and blurred from standing height but resolve into sharp little mosaic tiles when you crouch down, as in the pile close-ups.

Color: Gray, Turquoise, Blue and Green

The base is cool: a mushroom gray and a soft ivory that together carry roughly half the field and keep the piece livable rather than loud. Over that base sit three families of color. First the blues, running from a dusty denim through a mid sky blue to an outright bright turquoise and a deep peacock teal that concentrate down the right-hand third of the rug. Second the greens, an apple green and a duller olive that pool in horizontal drifts across the top and along the left edge. Third the warm neutrals, taupe and cocoa brown with flecks of butter yellow and a few small apricot marks that keep the whole thing from going cold. The corner-fold photo shows how much of the reverse side reads gray and green, so the rug will sit comfortably on both warm oak and cool concrete or pale stone floors.

The workshops there have the loom width to attempt a piece nearly 12 feet across, the dye range an abstract like this demands, and weavers trained in the same knotting discipline that built the classic Oriental rug tradition. Look at the pile on the folded corner: even rows, tight knot placement, no gaps between color changes, and selvages finished by hand along both long sides.
