A true 12' x 12' square is a hard piece to find, and harder still to find drawn this well. This one is hand-knotted in India in wool on a cotton foundation, and the whole field is built from overlapping rectangles of olive, chocolate, camel and pale beige, punctuated by small squares and short bars that read like brushstrokes. There is no traditional border, so the blocks run straight off all 4 edges and the rug behaves like a large piece of flat color rather than a framed panel. Design and Motifs

The composition is a grid that refuses to stay regular. Wide vertical panels of beige and camel are crossed by horizontal bands of brown and olive, and where two blocks meet the weaver simply lets the color change, with no outline and no shading. Inside several blocks sit small accent squares: a set of 4 in olive holding black, mauve, cream and tan, a row of 4 marching across a golden field, and single dark squares floating alone on pale ground. Three vertical bars, two gold and one near-black, anchor one of the ivory panels and give the eye a place to rest. It is minimalist work with a deliberate hand, closer in spirit to a painted canvas than to classical geometric rug designs, and because the square format has no long axis the pattern reads correctly from every side of the room.

Color: Olive, Chocolate and Sunlit Beige

This is a warm, low-contrast palette with real depth in the dark tones. The greens run from a dusty sage through a saturated moss olive to an almost black forest tone, and the close-up photographs show how the wool shifts between matte and luminous as the light crosses the pile. The browns go from a soft mid brown through chestnut to a deep chocolate along one edge, while the light side of the rug covers camel, honey gold, warm beige and a nearly ivory cream. Small mauve and charcoal accents supply the only sharp notes. Nothing here is bright, which is the point: the rug sits under furniture in walnut, leather, black steel or natural oak without competing, and it reads as a warm neutral from across the room while showing its color changes up close.

The weave is even across all 144" of width, the pile is dense and cut level, the selvages are tight and straight, and the folded-back view shows a clean, regular knot structure on a cotton foundation with no slack or waviness. Producing a perfect square at this scale takes disciplined loom tension, since any drift shows immediately in a design of straight-edged blocks, and here the blocks stay square right to the corners.
