At the center sits an oval cartouche holding a single bouquet of roses, tulips and small buds tied with foliage, framed by a twisted rope moulding that reads almost like carved plaster. From that center the design opens outward in long rococo C scrolls and S scrolls, each one terminating in a curled acanthus leaf, and those scrolls are threaded with trailing garlands of roses. The 4 corners carry large shield shaped reserves, each filled with its own bouquet and wreathed in ribbon and leaf work, so the composition resolves properly in every direction rather than simply repeating.
