13'1" x 16'6" Ziegler Chobi Oriental Rug | Sage Green & Gold All-Over Floral | Brand New

This is a big, quiet, confident piece of weaving: 13'1" x 16'6" of hand-knotted natural wool in a Ziegler Chobi drawing, with a soft sage green field carrying an all-over floral lattice and a wide camel gold border running the full perimeter. At 157" x 198" it is a true palace-scale rug, one of the sizes buyers hunt for and rarely find in a colorway this calm, and it sits comfortably in our range of oversize 13x17 area rugs. The wool is dense, hand-spun in character, and finished with the gentle wash that gives these rugs their mellow, already-lived-with surface. It is brand new and never used, and it ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming it as a genuine hand-knotted rug.

Please Note About the Photographs:

The first overhead studio photograph was shot under cooler light and reads greyer and greener than the rug does in person. The floor-level and angled shots are the more accurate reading of the warm sage green field and camel gold border. Any softness you see in the pile direction is simply nap and light, not wear or fading, and every rug is professionally steamed and pressed before it leaves our warehouse.

Design and Motifs

The field is an all-over composition with no central medallion, which is exactly why a rug this size works: the pattern repeats evenly, so furniture can sit anywhere on it without cutting the design in half. Large open palmettes alternate with 8 petal rosettes and serrated leaves, all strung on a slow, curving vine that travels the length of the field. The drawing is deliberately loose and generous, with plenty of open ground between motifs, so the eye rests rather than works. The border system is a wide main band of scrolling palmettes and cloud-band forms flanked by 2 narrow guard stripes of small flowerheads and leaves, and a plain outer band that frames the whole thing cleanly. The corners resolve properly, the vine turning rather than breaking, which is the detail that separates a well-drawn Ziegler from a cheap one.

Color: Sage Green Field, Camel Gold Border

The field is a muted sage green that leans grey in daylight and warms toward olive under lamps, the kind of tone that behaves like a neutral in a room full of wood and stone. Against it the floral work is drawn in camel gold, honey tan, ivory and a soft mushroom brown, with the vines shaded so no two blossoms read quite the same. The main border shifts to a warmer wheat gold, brightening the perimeter and pulling the green inward, and the outer band returns to a pale green that ties the edge back to the field. Small accents do the sharpening: thin rust red outlines around certain rosettes and a scattering of grey blue leaves and flowerheads that keep the palette from turning monochrome. Buyers working in this family of tones can browse more green area rugs, though few come at this scale.

Origin and Weaving Quality

Ziegler takes its name from the 19th century trading house that commissioned softly colored, open-field carpets for Western drawing rooms, and the Chobi Peshawar workshops of Pakistan have carried that tradition forward better than anyone. This rug is hand-knotted there on a cotton foundation with a natural wool pile, the back showing clean, even rows and crisp motif outlines, the fringe a continuation of the warps rather than an applied trim. Weaving a piece 13'1" x 16'6" is a long commitment on a single loom, and the evenness of the field across that span, with no drift in the pattern spacing and no color break through the ground, is the real quality marker here. If you are weighing the wider category, our guide to what separates a Persian rug from an Oriental rug is worth 5 minutes before you buy.

Ask about this rug

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
