This 9'9" x 13'9" Chobi Peshawar rug is a brand new, never used hand-knotted piece woven in Pakistan in the Ziegler manner, with a soft grey-blue field, an ivory main border and a gentle all over floral drawing that reads as furniture rather than statement. The pile is 5/16" wool on a cotton foundation, clipped low enough that the pattern stays crisp and the rug sits flat under a dining table or a heavy sofa. Design and Motifs

The field carries a classic Ziegler lattice: large gold palmettes and 8 petal rosettes linked by a thin ivory vine that loops into pointed lozenges, with small cruciform blossoms and curled serrated leaves filling the gaps. There is no central medallion, which is what makes an all over floral design so easy to furnish around, since you can float a coffee table or a 10 seat dining set anywhere on it without cutting the composition in half. The ivory main border alternates broad palmettes with a heart-shaped device, drawn loosely and with the slight irregularity that only comes off a hand-drawn cartoon. Two narrow guard stripes on each side repeat a rosette and leaf rhythm in apricot and grey, and the corners resolve cleanly, as the corner photograph shows.

The field is a muted grey with a blue-green cast, moving in soft horizontal bands of abrash where the dye lots shift, which gives the wool depth instead of a flat printed look. Over that sit the warm tones: honey gold and apricot in the palmettes, pale cream and buttermilk in the rosette centers, and thin rust-red outlines that draw every flower head and keep the pattern legible from across a room.
