13'6" x 19'2" Chobi Peshawar Oriental Rug | Neutral Ivory All-Over Floral | Palace Size Wool

This is a true palace piece: 13'6" x 19'2" of hand-knotted wool in a quiet, almost whispered neutral palette that reads as one continuous field of ivory and soft sage across nearly 260 square feet. It sits in the family of oversize rugs that can actually fill a great room, a long formal dining space or an open plan floor without floating. The pile is dense and evenly clipped, the selvedges are tight, and the back photographed alongside a 12 inch ruler shows the clean, regular knot rows of a careful workshop weave. Every rug we ship carries our certificate of authenticity, and this one is in excellent condition and has never been used on a floor.

Design and Motifs

The field carries an all-over floral repeat rather than a central medallion, which is exactly what makes a rug of this length work under furniture: there is no single focal point to cover up. Thin vine scrolls travel the full 19'2" length, linking rounded palmettes, 8 petal rosettes, small star flowers and curling serrated leaves, with the occasional cloud-band scroll and a repeating lotus form set at intervals down the middle. Three borders frame the field, a wide main border of alternating palmettes and leafy vine flanked by two narrow guard stripes of running flowerheads, with the corners resolved cleanly rather than cut off mid-motif. The drawing is soft and slightly abrashed, the corners of the main border and the inner guard visible in the close-up corner photograph, and the overall effect is a traditional Chobi interpretation of a classic all-over garden layout drawn at low contrast.

A Neutral Palette of Ivory, Sand and Soft Sage

Color is the whole argument for this rug. The ground moves between warm ivory and pale sand, shifting toward a light celadon and sage green through the lower half where the wool takes the dye a shade deeper. Motifs are drawn in muted gold, wheat, camel and a dusty tan, with a few flower centers in a faded rust and the smallest touches of pale blue-grey visible in the field close-up. Nothing in the palette is saturated, so the pattern arrives as texture first and drawing second. That makes it an unusually easy oversize rug to decorate around: it holds white walls, walnut and oak floors, linen upholstery, brass and blackened metal without fighting any of them. In daylight the sage reads cooler and the field looks silvery; under lamplight the golds and camels warm up and the whole floor turns honey colored.

Chobi Weaving in Peshawar, Pakistan

Chobi is the modern weaving tradition of the Peshawar workshops in northern Pakistan, and it is one of the strongest sources of large hand-knotted work being made today. The looms there are built wide enough to carry a 13'6" width in one piece, which most village weaving groups simply cannot do, and the designs are drawn from the classic all-over garden and vine repertoire then softened into the muted palette Chobi is known for. The wool is spun for a full, slightly lustrous pile and knotted on a cotton foundation, the combination that gives an Oriental rug this size the weight and stability to lie flat for decades. Look at the reverse in the last photograph: even knot rows, no ridging, and a straight, well-secured fringe, all signs of an experienced Peshawar weaver rather than a rushed commercial piece.
