At 13'9" x 15'8" this Chobi Peshawar sits only 23 inches off perfectly square, which makes it the right answer for a squared-off great room or a large formal space where a standard long rectangle leaves one axis short. The field reads as a soft dusty sage, the wide main border as a warm golden tan, and the wool pile is low, even and clipped so the large-scale drawing stays legible from standing height. Design and Motifs

There is no central medallion. The sage field instead carries an all-over floral design, with a column of large ivory and honey palmettes running up the center axis and open rosettes, cupped tulip heads and long serrated leaves curling back on themselves across the rest of the ground. The scale of the drawing is the point: motifs are big and set far apart, which is what keeps a rug of this footprint calm rather than busy, and it means furniture legs land on open field rather than chopping a medallion in half. The wide main border alternates a crowned palmette with a paired vase and leaf form, each one traced in a fine brick red line that appears nowhere else in any quantity, and narrow scrolling vine guard stripes close the composition on all 4 sides.

A Neutral Palette of Sage, Camel and Ivory

In daylight the field sits between sage and celadon, a grey-leaning green with just enough warmth to catch the natural luster of the wool. The abrash is gentle and horizontal, shifting a shade lighter or deeper as the weavers moved through dye lots, and that variation is what gives the surface depth instead of the flat look of a machine print. Against it the main border runs from honey to camel to soft golden tan, and the motifs themselves are drawn in ivory, oatmeal, pale taupe and a muted olive brown, with the occasional brick red outline at the heart of a palmette. There is no black and no bright white anywhere in the palette, so the rug reads as a true neutral from across the room and settles under oak, walnut, brass and linen without competing with any of them.

Woven in Peshawar: The Chobi Weave

Peshawar in northwest Pakistan is where the Chobi style was developed and where it is still woven best. Chobi takes its name from the word for wood, a nod to the plant and vegetable dye tradition the style is built on, and the finished piece is washed so the palette mellows to the antique tone seen here. This one is hand-knotted with a wool pile on a cotton foundation, clipped low and evenly, with tight straight selvages and a clean fringe at both ends.
