6'5" x 9'6" Persian Nain Rug | Ivory Wool & Silk Floral Medallion | Never Used

This is a clean, quiet, extremely well drawn example of the kind of weaving that made Persian Nain rugs the standard for ivory ground floral work. At 6'5" x 9'6" it covers a seating group without crowding it, and the pile has never carried furniture: the surface is full, the ends are square, and the fringe has never been walked on. Wool and silk are worked together, with the silk used as line work rather than as a whole field, so the drawing stays sharp while the rug still feels like wool underfoot. Every rug we ship, this one included, comes with a certificate of authenticity that records origin, materials and measurements.

Design and Motifs

The center holds a round, multi-lobed star medallion built up in layers: a small rosette core, a ring of navy lattice, then 16 pale blue lobes edged in dark outline, with a soft camel halo carrying paired palmettes. Slender pendants drop above and below it onto the open ivory field, where curling arabesque vines run corner to corner and carry Shah Abbasi palmettes, 8 petal rosettes, tulip buds and small feathered leaves. The spandrels are drawn lightly rather than filled in solid, which keeps the field reading as ivory rather than as pattern. The wide main border is an ivory ground meander of burgundy roses, lotus palmettes and blue flower sprays, framed by 4 narrow guard stripes on a camel ground with a running rosette and leaf chain. Look at the close-ups and the draftsmanship holds up: the vines close cleanly, the mirrored halves match, and no motif is squeezed to fit the corner.

Ivory Ground with Blue, Rose and Green Accents

The field is a warm ivory, closer to cream than to white, with no abrash and no color break across the 9'6" length. Against it the palette is mostly blue: powder and sky blue for the medallion lobes and the small flowerheads, and a near black navy for every outline, which is what gives the drawing its definition. The accents are small but deliberate, dusty rose and pink in the larger rosettes, deep burgundy at the flower centers, pine and sage green in the leaf sprays, and camel to apricot in the guard stripes and the medallion halo. The silk highlights sit in the vine lines and petal edges, so the rug shifts as you cross the room: from one end the ivory looks flat and cool, from the other the silk lifts and the blues read brighter.

Nain Weaving and Weave Quality

Nain sits on the western edge of the central Persian desert, between Isfahan and Yazd, a town that spent generations weaving fine wool cloth before it turned to knotted rugs in the 20th century and immediately aimed at the top of the market. The design language comes out of the Isfahan workshop tradition, curved line, flowing vine and precise floral drawing, and that only works on a tight weave. Here the knotting is fine and even on a cotton foundation, the pile is clipped short so the motifs stay legible, and the back shows small, regular knots with straight wefts and no pull along the sides. That combination, high knot count with a short even clip and silk outlining, is what separates a workshop Nain from a village floral rug, and it is why this 6'5" x 9'6" piece still looks crisp in the detail photographs at close range.
