6'6" x 10' Persian Rug | Light Maroon Kerman Medallion Design | Hand-Knotted Wool

A room-size piece drawn in the Kerman manner, this 6'6" x 10' Persian rug sets a wide ivory and navy star medallion into a soft light maroon field and then fills every inch around it with small flowering vine work. The weave is 100% hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, with a firm handle and an even, close-cropped surface that reads clearly in the back photograph. It falls squarely into the practical 7x10 Persian rugs range that suits a seating group or a 6 chair table, and it arrives in excellent condition with a certificate of authenticity confirming the hand-knotted construction, the materials and the Persian origin.

Design and Motifs

The center holds an 8 petal rosette inside an ivory cartouche, ringed by a serrated navy star whose points are stepped rather than curved. Above and below the medallion sit two navy pendants, each carrying its own cluster of rosettes and a small comb-tooth edge, and the 4 corners are closed by ivory spandrels drawn with the same hooked, angular outline. The light maroon field between those anchors is never left empty: fine vine stems carry rose and ivory blossoms, tiny leaf sprays, stepped hooks and paired flowering shrubs in soft camel and sage. The main navy border alternates a round rosette with a split palmette and a pale lily form, framed on both sides by narrow ivory guard stripes of running vine and repeating small flowerheads, so the pattern reads busy up close and calm from across the room.

The Light Maroon and Navy Color Palette

The field is a light maroon, a dusty rose-red that is softer and warmer than a true crimson and photographs closer to a faded brick in daylight. A gentle tonal shift runs across the field from one half to the other, the natural abrash that comes from hand-dyed wool rather than any fade or wear. Against that ground the dark navy of the border and the medallion ring does the heavy framing work, while ivory supplies the lift: the medallion cartouche, the corner spandrels, the guard stripes and dozens of small blossoms all sit in cream. Accents of tomato rose, sage green, deep aubergine and a thin line of camel gold appear in the flowerheads and leaves, enough variation to keep the surface alive. For buyers browsing the wider family of red and burgundy Persian rugs, this one sits at the lighter, dustier end of the group and works easily with oak, walnut and warm white walls.

Persian Origin and the Kerman Design Tradition

Woven in Persia, the drawing follows the vocabulary of Persian Kerman rugs, the southeastern weaving tradition known for flowering borders, rosette medallions and a palette built on soft reds and ivory rather than hot primaries. Here that formula is translated into a sturdier, slightly more angular hand, with stepped medallion edges and a robust wool pile meant for daily use instead of display. The reverse, shown with a ruler for scale, reveals tight even rows of wool knots on a cotton warp and weft, with the pattern legible from the back, the sign of a weaver working to a consistent count across a full 10 foot length. Good selvages, full fringe at both ends and an unworn pile make this a rug you can put down in a main room and leave there for decades.
