Design and Motifs

The layout follows the classic Esfahan formula. A round, lobed medallion sits dead center, built in concentric rings: an 8 petal rosette at the core, a black ground band of tiny blossoms around it, then a wheel of pale blue cartouches and finally a spray of curling gold cloud bands that dissolve into the field. Above and below it hang slender pendants shaped like cypress finials. The field itself is not empty for a single inch, carrying an all over lattice of curved vine, split palmettes, sunflower heads and feathery saz leaves, all drawn in strict mirror symmetry across both axes. The 4 corners are anchored by quarter spandrels that echo the medallion in miniature. The border system runs 5 bands deep, with a wide main band of scrolling palmettes and lotus flowers flanked by narrow floral meanders and an outer guard of small rosettes, and the whole frame is closed by a solid navy outer edge.

A Navy Blue Field Against Warm Gold

The field is a deep midnight navy with a secondary layer of teal and petrol blue tracery worked into the ground, which keeps the dark area alive rather than flat. Against it the floral work reads in warm camel gold, apricot and soft peach, with rust and brick red used sparingly on flower centers and vine tips, plus small hits of turquoise and sage green scattered through the palmettes. The medallion brightens to ivory and cream at its edges with light sky blue panels inside, so it reads as the lightest point on the rug. The main border shifts to a full golden camel ground printed with a fine tone on tone floral trellis, and the narrow guard bands carry ivory with rust and navy outlines. It is a high contrast, formal palette that suits deep wood furniture and cream walls, and it sits comfortably with other navy blue rugs and blue and gold upholstery.

Woven in Turkey to a High Loom Standard
