This 6' x 9' piece is a brand new, never used hand-knotted Oriental rug woven in India in the Oushak tradition, with a 100% wool pile of about 3/8" on a cotton foundation. The palette is deliberately quiet: a light blue field carrying tan, gold and salmon drawing, framed by a wide ivory border. It is a calm, low-contrast room rug rather than a statement piece, which is exactly why this look sells so well in rooms with oak floors, linen upholstery and natural light. Among 6x9 area rugs it is one of the easiest to live with. Design and Motifs

The field carries a classic Oushak all over design, built on a loose lattice of thin vines that link a repeating sequence of forms: large tan and salmon palmettes on the center axis, octagonal cartouches enclosing 8 petal rosettes, small stepped diamonds, and pale cloudband hooks that curl in from either side. A single ivory and salmon star medallion sits at the center of the field, not as a dominant anchor but as one more incident in the repeat, which is what gives this drawing its relaxed, continuous rhythm. The wide ivory main border runs a leafy meandering vine punctuated by angular rosettes and brown serrated leaf forms, and it is contained by soft blue guard stripes filled with small reciprocal blocks and hooks. All 4 corners resolve cleanly, with the border turn drawn rather than cut off, a good sign of a weaver following the cartoon properly. The drawing throughout is angular and village-style, with straight lines and stepped outlines instead of tightly curved florals.

A Light Blue Field with Ivory, Gold and Soft Green

Light blue is the main color, and in the close-up photographs it reads as a soft, slightly green-leaning sky blue with visible abrash, the natural tonal shift that comes from hand-spun, hand-dyed wool. Against that ground the motifs are drawn in warm tan, honey gold, muted salmon and pale peach, with cream and ivory outlines that lift each shape away from the field. The main border is a soft cream to ivory, aged in tone rather than bright white, and it carries gold rosettes and grey-brown leaves. Soft green appears in the outer guard band and in scattered leaf tips, tying the border back to the blue of the field, while touches of brown give the palmettes and the border leaves their weight. Nothing in the palette is saturated, so the rug stays quiet under furniture and works with cream, camel, walnut, sage and warm white schemes without fighting them.

Woven in India in the Oushak Tradition

The Oushak name comes from the weaving town of Ushak in western Anatolia, known for large-scale, softly drawn florals in muted tones. This rug is an honest modern interpretation, hand-knotted in India, where the great majority of the world's good contemporary hand-knotted work is now produced. The back, shown folded in the photographs, is even and legible, with each knot row clearly readable across a cotton warp and weft, and the fringe is the natural extension of that warp rather than an applied trim. The wool has a slight sheen and a dry, springy handle that takes footfall well at a 3/8" pile height. It is a village-weight weave rather than a fine city workshop product, and that is the point: durable, flat-lying, and priced for a room you actually use.
