7' x 7' Round Oriental Rug | Ivory Tabriz Floral Design | Wool and Silk Pile, Never Used

A true circle at 7' x 7', this hand-knotted Oriental rug was woven in China in the classical Tabriz floral manner, with a wool pile lifted by silk in the flower heads and scrolling leaves. The circle is drawn accurately, the pile is even from edge to edge, and the hand-tied ivory fringe is full and untouched. It has never been on a floor, so the silk still throws its full sheen when you walk around it and the wool has not yet started to break in. Every rug we sell ships with a certificate of authenticity.

Design and Motifs

The field carries a full all over floral composition rather than a single dominant medallion. At the center sits a small 8 petal rosette framed by a ring of paired blossoms and serrated leaves, and from there the drawing radiates outward in concentric rounds: large fan shaped palmettes, cupped lotus blooms, curling cloud band scrolls and slender vines that link one flower to the next without a break. Because the format is round, the weaver had to rotate the repeat rather than mirror it along an axis, which is harder to draft and is exactly where cheap round rugs go wrong. Here the rhythm holds all the way to the edge. Three concentric borders finish the circle: a narrow inner guard of tiny rosettes, a wide main band of alternating palmettes and leafy arabesques, and a matching outer guard that keeps the eye moving around the ring.

A Soft Ivory Palette with Green, Burgundy and Pink

The ground is a warm ivory that reads closer to cream or light champagne in daylight and picks up a faint gold cast under lamplight. Against it the flower heads run through soft gold and honey, dusty salmon pink and a deeper rose, with sage and olive green reserved for the leaves and tendrils. Burgundy appears in small doses at the centers of the larger rosettes, giving the pattern points of weight without darkening the overall tone. Fine charcoal outlining separates each motif from the ivory ground, which is what keeps a pale rug from looking washed out. The main border is only a shade deeper than the field, so the circle reads as one continuous soft surface, and the silk highlights shift from matte to bright as you change position.

Chinese Workshop Weaving in the Tabriz Tradition

This piece was made in China by a workshop working from a Tabriz cartoon, a lineage that goes back to the mid 20th century when Chinese ateliers began weaving classical northwest floral designs on a cotton foundation with wool and silk pile. The back tells the story: a tight, regular knot grid with clean color changes and no skipped wefts, which is what allows the curved vine work and the fine outlining to hold their shape at this scale. The wool is well spun and takes dye evenly, and the silk is used as accent rather than filler. A round rug this size suits a circular dining table, a stair landing or a foyer where a rectangle would fight the architecture, and at 7' x 7' it fills that space without crowding the doorways.

Ask about this rug

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
