9'2" x 9'2" Round Oriental Rug | Ivory Tabriz Floral Medallion Design | Wool & Silk, Never Used

A true circle at 9'2" x 9'2", this hand-knotted Oriental rug is drawn in the Tabriz manner: one radiating medallion, a field of curling vines, and 5 concentric borders that hold the circle together. The pile is wool with silk picked into the flowerheads and the medallion, which is why the drawing reads sharp at close range and the lighter tones shift as you walk around it. It has never been used and the condition is perfect, with full pile, even edges and a clean ivory fringe all the way around. Every rug we sell ships with a certificate of authenticity.

Design and Motifs

The center is an 8 petal rosette in rose and ivory, set inside a sage medallion that opens outward in scalloped lobes and small hooked pendants. From there the field runs in rings rather than rows: large palmettes and open roses alternate with serrated leaves and buds, all carried on thin arabesque vines that curve with the shape of the rug instead of fighting it. Because the format is round, the weaver had to redraw a rectangular pattern as a wheel, and the repeat lands cleanly at 4 quarter points, which is the hardest part of this design to pull off. The main border is a sage ground with linked flowerheads and leaf pairs, flanked on both sides by narrow guard stripes in camel and rose, then a plain ivory outer band that frames the circle.

A Field of Ivory With Sage Green and Burgundy

The ground is a warm ivory, closer to fresh cream than to white, and it takes up most of the surface, which keeps a rug this wide feeling light in a room. Against it the flowers are worked in wine burgundy and a dusty rose, with camel gold and a soft celadon green in the leaves and the medallion ground. Thin charcoal and deep navy outlines separate one shape from the next and stop the palette from going flat. The border sits a shade cooler than the field, a muted sage that pushes the ivory forward, and the narrow guard stripes pick the same camel and rose back up so the eye travels from the center out. In daylight the silk in the petals and the medallion reads almost metallic; under lamps the whole rug settles into a quiet neutral.

Woven in China to the Tabriz Pattern

This piece was made in China, where the better workshops have spent decades weaving classical floral patterns in fine wool and silk on a cotton foundation, and it holds its own among hand-knotted Oriental rugs at this level. The back, shown next to a ruler, tells the story: small, tight, regular knots in even rows, with the outlines legible from the reverse side, which is what allows curved vine work at this scale. A round format adds real difficulty, since the weaver reduces the knot count row by row toward each end and still has to keep the medallion centered and the borders parallel to the edge. At 9'2" across it is a genuinely large circle, sized for a rotunda, an open foyer, or a round dining table with chairs pulled back.
