This is the quiet, formal side of the Sarouk tradition: a cream field drawn edge to edge with a soft ogee lattice of flowering sprays, framed by a rose-red border of full-blown roses and palmettes. It is hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation with a 3/8" pile, dense enough to hold the drawing crisply and short enough that the fine detail in the lattice never blurs. Design and Motifs

The field is organized as a repeating lattice of pointed ogee compartments, each one outlined by a thin curling vine rather than a hard line, so the structure reads as suggestion instead of a grid. Inside every compartment sits a bouquet: clusters of open roses, small many-petalled rosettes, buds and serrated leaves, with larger cypress-shaped floral cones anchoring the vertical axis. At the exact center the weaver placed a small 8 petal rosette set in a dark navy cartouche, the only truly solid dark form in the whole field, which gives the eye a place to settle. The main border carries a classic Sarouk rose meander, with ivory and cream roses alternating against red and linked by turning vines, and it is flanked on both sides by blue guard stripes of small paired flowers, plus a fine reciprocal outer stripe. The drawing is curvilinear throughout, with no angular shortcuts, which is what separates Sarouk work from village weaving in the same palette.

A Cream Field Against Rose Red and Indigo

The ground is a warm cream that leans faintly toward pale gold under direct light and cools to a clean ivory on a light wood floor, which is exactly the kind of neutral that keeps a busy floral field from feeling heavy. The floral work sits in two blues: a deep indigo that reads almost black in the shaded outlines, and a softer denim blue that fills the larger leaves and carries the guard borders. Against those, the reds do the warming, from the muted rose red of the main border to the brighter coral and salmon highlights inside individual blossoms. Beige and camel tones appear in the vine work and the leaf shading, while brown and black outlining gives every flower a defined edge.
