8'1" x 10'7" Agra Rug | Ziglar All Over Floral Design | Black & Rustic Red | Brand New

This is a brand new, never used Agra hand-knotted in natural wool and measuring 8'1" x 10'7", a true room size that sits comfortably in the 8x11 rug size range under a sofa group or a dining table for 6 to 8. The weave is dense and even, the wool is full bodied with a clean sheen, and the pile has never been walked on, so the drawing still reads crisply from one end of the field to the other. It ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming that it is a genuine hand-knotted piece, and the back tag numbers it 6445.

Design and Motifs

The field carries a classic Ziglar all over floral drawing with no central medallion, so the pattern repeats and mirrors across the whole surface rather than pulling the eye to one point. Large shield palmettes anchor the vertical axis, flanked by round rosettes, serrated acanthus leaves and long curling cloud bands that loop back on themselves. Fine vine tracery links every element, with small 8 petal flower heads and tiny budded stems filling the ground between the big forms. The border system runs three deep: a wide rustic red main band of alternating palmettes and leaf sprays, framed by soft olive guard stripes of linked rosettes, with an outer black outline and a narrow inner line that keeps the field tight. Both ends finish in plain ivory fringe off the cotton warps.

Color Palette

The field is a deep inky black that photographs almost blue-black under daylight and reads as near solid black indoors, which is what gives the floral work its lift. Against it the weaver placed a full range of warm earth tones: antique gold, olive brown, mossy green, soft sage, taupe rose and cream, with small hits of tomato red and a pale aqua blue in the leaf tips and flower centers. The main border shifts to a warm rustic red, more brick and terracotta than cherry, and the guard bands sit in a muted putty olive that cools the transition between border and field. Each motif is outlined in a darker shade of its own color, a detail visible in the close-up photos, which is what keeps a palette this busy from looking muddy. Overall it is a dark, warm, low-glare rug that grounds a room without fighting the furniture.

Agra Weaving and Quality

Agra has been a hand-knotting center since the Mughal court workshops, and today India is where most of the world's best contemporary hand-knotted work is produced, with spinning, dyeing and weaving still done by hand at a level few other countries sustain. This piece is a good example of why: the knotting is tight and regular, the selvedges are firmly overcast, the back shows clean grain with no slack rows, and the natural wool has the greasy luster that only comes from well prepared highland fleece. Woven on a cotton foundation, it will lie flat and hold its shape for decades. If you are weighing it against other weaving traditions, our guide to what separates a Persian rug from a broader Oriental rug explains where Agra sits in that family.
