8'1" x 10' Agra Oriental Rug | Rust & Olive Brown Ziegler All-Over Floral | Natural Wool, Never Used

This 8'1" x 10' Agra piece is a recently woven, never used hand-knotted Oriental rug in the Ziegler manner, with a soft rust field, a deep olive brown border and a quiet palette of gold, ivory and pale blue. The wool is hand-spun and takes light unevenly in the best way, so the field shifts from clay to copper as you walk around it. It is a full room size at a workable 8 feet 1 inch by 10 feet, dense enough underfoot to feel substantial yet low enough in pile to slide a dining chair across. Every rug we ship carries our certificate of authenticity confirming that it is 100% hand-knotted.

Please Note About the Photographs:

The lighter and darker patches you can see across the rust field in the overhead photograph are fold shadows from pallet storage. They are not wear, not fade and not damage, and they relax out once the rug is laid flat. Every rug is professionally steamed and pressed before it leaves our warehouse.

Design and Motifs

There is no medallion here. The drawing is an all-over floral lattice built from thin forked vines that branch, hook back on themselves and carry a repeating cycle of large serrated palmettes, 8 petal rosettes, spade shaped blossoms and small star flowers. The layout mirrors left to right and top to bottom around a central axis, so the eye reads a loose garden rather than a grid, and the open ground between motifs gives the pattern room to breathe. A narrow gold guard stripe separates the field from a wide olive brown main border filled with flowering branches that rise like small trees between big sunflower-style rosettes, and a second rust outer band of tiny paired blossoms finishes the edge before the ivory fringe. The spade and leaf cartouches at the four corners of the field repeat the border rosette at a smaller scale, which is the detail that tells you the design was properly cartooned rather than improvised.

A Rust Field Against Olive Brown

The field is a muted rust, closer to terracotta and dried clay than to orange, and the hand-spun wool carries enough natural variation that it deepens toward copper in the close-up photographs and lightens to a dusty salmon across the open centre. Against it the main border reads as a dark olive brown, almost coffee in shadow, which is what makes the rug feel older and calmer than its age. The motif palette is deliberately soft: butter yellow and antique gold on the palmettes, ivory and cream on the rosettes, pale powder blue on the small star flowers and tendrils, with a muted celadon green and the occasional touch of soft rose or plum at the flower centres. Dark brown outlines hold every element in place. There is no harsh white and no bright primary anywhere, so the rug sits comfortably with walnut and oak furniture, cream plaster walls, brass, and leather in tan or oxblood.

Agra Weaving and Ziegler Quality

Agra has been a weaving centre since the Mughal workshops, and today northern India is where most of the world's good contemporary hand-knotted work is produced, with the Ziegler style floral designs woven to a standard that would have been hard to find anywhere 40 years ago. This piece shows it in the handling: a firm cotton foundation, tightly packed rows, clean selvedges and a clipped pile even enough that the fine blue tendrils only one or two knots wide stay legible. The wool is the real argument for the rug, hand-spun and lanolin-rich, which is why it already has a low sheen before a single year of foot traffic. At 8'1" x 10' it falls in the most requested room size we sell, and if you are comparing options you can see the rest of our 8x10 rugs side by side. Perfect condition, never laid down, rug number 6519.
