8'11" x 12' Indian Zigler Rug | Rust Red All Over Floral Field | Natural Organic Wool, Never Used
This is a brand new, never used Zigler hand-knotted rug measuring 8'11" x 12', woven in India from natural organic wool on a cotton foundation. The drawing is pure Zigler: a rust red field carrying one continuous system of flowering vines, framed by a wide beige main border and slim gold guard stripes. At 107" by 144" it covers a standard 9x12 hand-knotted rug footprint, which is the most useful large size for a main living space. It ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming the hand-knotted construction, wool content and origin.
Please Note About the Photographs:
The full view photograph was taken under cooler studio light, so the field reads as a deeper brick brown there. The close range photographs on the wood floor show the true tone, a clear rust red with a slight glow in the wool. There is no fading, no wear and no color variation in the rug itself, and every piece is professionally steamed and pressed before it leaves our warehouse.
Design and Motifs
There is no medallion here, which is the point of the Zigler drawing. Instead the whole field is an all over floral design, built from ivory vine stems that split, curl and reconnect across all 12 feet of length. The repeating units are large lotus palmettes with layered cream and peach petals, broad serrated leaves, 8 petal rosettes and small bud forms that fill the spaces between the scrolls. The scale is generous and deliberately open, so furniture sits over the pattern without crowding it. The wide beige main border carries its own vine of palmettes and angular leaf sprays with small red and navy accents, closed on both sides by narrow gold bands of running flowerheads, and the outer edge finishes in a thin rust line and a clean ivory fringe.
A Rust Red Field With Beige, Gold and Sage Green
The field is a warm rust red, closer to terracotta and cinnamon than to a cool blood red, and the natural organic wool takes the dye unevenly enough to give a soft abrash that shifts in daylight. Against it the vine work reads in cream and pale beige, with individual palmette petals warming into peach and apricot. Sage green does the quiet work: the leaves move from a light olive sage through a deeper muted green, which cools the field and keeps the whole surface from going monochrome. The main border is a pale sandy beige, a full shade lighter than the field motifs, and the guard stripes are a dull antique gold. Pinpoint accents of navy, brick red and ivory sit inside the flowerheads, visible up close and invisible from across the room, which is exactly how this palette is meant to work with wood floors and warm neutral walls.
Made in India: Weaving Quality of This Zigler
India is where most of the world's best contemporary hand-knotted weaving is now done, and this rug is a straightforward example of why. The back photograph shows an even, disciplined knot field with no pulled rows, no waviness through the border and tightly overcast selvedges, which is the sign of a well managed loom rather than a rushed one. The pile is natural organic wool, hand spun and left with its lanolin, so it has a dry sheen and the kind of resilience that handles a dining table and chairs for decades. As an Oriental rug in the Zigler tradition, it was built to read as a quiet, classic floor rather than a statement piece, and it has never been laid in a home.
