8'3" x 9'7" Chobi Peshawar Zigler Rug | Light Sage Green & Gold All Over Floral | Brand New

Hand-knotted in Pakistan on a cotton foundation with hand-spun wool, this rug takes the Zigler drawing tradition and plays it very quietly: a light sage green field, gold and honey vine work, and a wide ivory border that reads almost as one soft tone from across the room. The pile is clipped low and even, the wool has that washed, slightly lustrous surface the Chobi weavers are known for, and the rug is brand new and never used, with crisp selvedges and full hand-tied fringe at both ends. At 8'3" x 9'7" it is a true room-size piece, and it sits comfortably with the rest of our 8x10 Oriental rugs. Every rug we ship travels with a certificate of authenticity confirming it is a genuine hand-knotted piece.

Design and Motifs

The field carries a classic Zigler all over floral design rather than a central medallion, which is why it works in almost any furniture layout. Large open palmettes and broad 8 petal rosettes are spaced generously down the length of the rug and joined by thick curling vine arms, with small cross-shaped blossoms and feathery leaves filling the ground between them. The drawing is deliberately loose and large in scale, the lines rounded rather than sharp, so the pattern never crowds the field. Framing it is a wide main border of leaf sprays and alternating flower heads, pinned at the 4 corners by larger rosettes, with a narrow geometric guard stripe on each side that keeps the whole composition contained. One end border shows a standing floral vase motif, a small detail worth noticing when the rug is laid flat.

A Light Sage Green and Gold Palette

Color is the real argument for this rug. The field is a pale sage green that leans grey in daylight and warms toward olive under lamp light, with gentle horizontal abrash striation running across it from the hand-spun yarn. Over that, the vines and palmettes are drawn in soft gold, wheat and apricot, with a few blossoms picked out in near-white ivory so they lift away from the ground. The border shifts to sand and cream, with pale celadon green and light brown outlining the leaf work and a soft taupe reading in the guard stripes. There is no hard navy, no strong red, nothing saturated anywhere in the rug, which is exactly why it suits a neutral interior: it adds pattern and wool texture without introducing a new dominant color. If a muted scheme is what you are working toward, it also sits naturally alongside our other green Oriental rugs.

Chobi Peshawar Weaving and Quality

Peshawar, in northwest Pakistan, is the center of the Chobi trade, and its workshops are among the most consistent producers of good contemporary hand-knotted work. Chobi refers to the wood-toned, naturally muted dye range these weavers favor, and the Zigler layout they reach for most often descends from the 19th century commercial workshop style that Western buyers have always liked for its large, calm drawing. The back of this piece, visible in the fold photo, shows even knot rows and a tight cotton foundation with no lumps or pulled lines, which is what holds an 8'3" x 9'7" rug flat and square on the floor for decades. The wool is hand-spun and lightly washed, giving a soft handle and a surface that takes light differently as you cross the room. As a genuine Oriental rug rather than a machine-made copy, it will wear in and not out.
