Design and Motifs

The field carries an all-over floral design built on a lattice of pale ivory and sand vines that arch across the navy ground and meet at large serrated palmettes. Between them sit smaller lotus heads, budding sprays, curled leaves and tiny 4 petal rosettes scattered across the open blue, with pairs of shield-shaped blossoms facing one another along the center line. There is no medallion, which keeps the pattern reading evenly from any seat in the room and lets furniture sit anywhere without cutting off a focal point. The main border on a camel ground alternates navy diamond cartouches with rust cusped medallions and ivory palmettes, framed inside and out by narrow rust guard stripes of stylized flower heads and barber-pole minor bands. Corners resolve cleanly, a sign the weavers followed a proper cartoon rather than improvising to the finish.

Color Palette

The ground is a saturated indigo navy with visible abrash, the gentle horizontal banding that comes from hand-spun wool taking dye at slightly different rates, so the blue breathes instead of sitting flat. Against it the vinework runs in soft ivory and silver gray, while the palmettes are filled with camel, wheat gold, honey brown and clean cream, several with dark charcoal or forest green centers that read as the green noted in the specs.
