8'8" x 11'8" Agra Design Oriental Rug | Tan & Charcoal Black Transitional All Over Floral | Hand-Knotted Wool

This 8'8" x 11'8" hand-knotted wool rug takes the classic Agra drawing of Mughal India and reworks it in a quiet, transitional palette that suits a modern room. The field is an open tan and peach ground, lightly abrashed the way good hand-spun wool always is, with a scattered floral lattice drawn in soft green, coral and cream. A wide charcoal black border carries the weight, so the rug reads as a strong graphic shape from across the room and as a delicate piece of drawing when you stand over it. It is brand new, never used, with full even pile and finished selvedges, and it ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming it as a genuine hand-knotted Oriental rug.

Design and Motifs

The field follows an all over floral plan rather than a central medallion, with a thin vine tracery running corner to corner and blossoms set at wide intervals so the ground stays open. Three motif types repeat: a large sunburst rosette outlined in black with pink and green petals, a small leaf shaped cartouche with a cypress-like sprig inside, and simple 8 petal flower heads dropped between the vines. Each of the 4 corners resolves cleanly into a lotus palmette that points back into the field. The main border is where the Agra vocabulary shows most clearly, a continuous meander of broad serrated acanthus leaves and tan palmettes turning around a fine vine on charcoal black, framed on both sides by a narrow guard stripe of small teal cross rosettes. The drawing is confident and evenly spaced, with no crowding at the ends, which is the sign of a weaver working from a well resolved cartoon.

A Tan, Peach and Charcoal Black Palette

The ground sits between tan and a warm peach, shifting slightly along the weft lines so that under daylight the field looks sandy and under lamplight it warms toward blush. Against that, the border is a deep charcoal black that carries a brown cast where the wool takes the dye unevenly, giving it depth rather than a flat printed look. The motifs are drawn in ivory and pale gold, then accented with coral pink petals, soft sage and olive green leaves and small touches of teal blue in the rosette centers and the guard stripe crosses. Nothing in the palette is loud. The whole rug lives in the beige, peach and charcoal range, which makes it unusually easy to place with white oak floors, walnut furniture, cream upholstery or a black metal and glass interior. Weaving Quality and Origin

This rug was made in Pakistan, where workshops have kept the Agra and Mughal design tradition alive with hand-spun wool, hand-knotting and a slow finish wash. The pile is natural wool on a cotton foundation, knotted tightly enough to hold the fine vine work and the small cross rosettes of the guard stripe without blurring, and clipped to a medium height that shows the drawing while leaving plenty of wool for decades of traffic. The back is even and supple, the ends are secured and the selvedges are wrapped by hand. At 8'8" x 11'8" it falls into the standard 9x12 rug footprint that anchors most large rooms, with enough field left open around a seating group or a dining table for the pattern to breathe.
