This is a semi-antique Persian Heriz in the size most American rooms are actually built for, 8'8" x 11', hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation with a 3/8" pile that still stands evenly from end to end. The drawing is pure village Heriz: one enormous stepped medallion filling the width of the field, ivory spandrels cut into the 4 corners, and a dark main border of rosettes and angular vinework holding the whole thing in place. Design and Motifs

The center is a stepped diamond medallion outlined in serrated sawtooth edging, with an 8 petal rosette at its heart and paired anchor pendants reaching north and south toward the ends of the field. Flanking it are two large hooked cartouches filled with tiny blocky geometry, the kind of freehand drawing that tells you the weaver worked from memory and a village cartoon rather than a city workshop plan. The ivory corner spandrels carry curling meander hooks, angular palmettes and small stylized shrubs, and the field between medallion and border is scattered with leaf forms, star rosettes and little stepped ornaments that never repeat exactly. The main border alternates rosette panels with angular vine, framed by two narrow guard stripes of running flowerheads. Coral Red, Ivory and the Accent Palette

The field is a coral red with an orange undertone, closer to terracotta than to the cool wine red of a city rug, and it shifts subtly across the surface the way good vegetable-toned village wool always does. Against it the 4 corner spandrels read as a clean parchment ivory, bright enough to lift the whole composition and give the eye somewhere to rest.
