8'9" x 12' Tibetan Wool and Silk Rug | Modern Ivory Floral Design | Brand New, Never Used

This is a hand-knotted Tibetan rug measuring 8'9" x 12', woven with a wool and silk pile on a cotton foundation and carrying the back tag number F-4093 shown in the final photograph. It is a genuinely modern piece: no border, no medallion, just a warm ivory field with oversized sunflower and daisy blossoms drifting across it on thin curving stems. The silk is used selectively, so certain petals and leaves flash light while the wool ground stays matte, and the whole drawing shifts as you walk around it. Every rug we sell ships with a certificate of authenticity, and this one arrives in perfect, never-used condition. If you have been comparing Oriental rug types before committing to a room-size piece, this one sits comfortably among our modern and contemporary rugs while still being knotted entirely by hand.

Design and Motifs

The field is completely open and borderless, which is what gives the composition its calm. Roughly 15 large blossoms are scattered across it, drawn at 3 different scales: broad daisies with jagged saw-tooth petals and a solid round center, dense sunflowers built from pointed petals ringing a seed head of graduated dots, and smaller fan-shaped florets that fold half open as if caught mid-bloom. They are joined by slender single-line stems that wander rather than repeat, each one hung with simple leaves and teardrop buds. Nothing mirrors, nothing is symmetrical, and no motif sits in the same position twice, so the eye keeps moving. The drawing is deliberately flat and graphic, closer to a botanical print or a screen-printed textile than to a traditional all-over floral, and the borderless treatment lets the pattern run off the edges instead of being contained.

An Ivory Ground with Rust, Copper and Gold Silk Blooms

The ground is a warm ivory that reads closer to cream or soft sand in daylight and takes on a light honey cast under lamps. Against it, the flowers work through a tight autumnal range: deep rust and brick on the darkest sunflowers, bright copper and burnt orange on the mid-tones, soft terracotta and peach on the larger daisies, and pale camel and gold on the quietest blossoms, which almost dissolve into the field. Leaves and stems are worked in cocoa and tobacco brown. The most interesting color effect comes from the material itself: where silk carries the motif, as in the gold fan-shaped bloom and the paisley leaf shown in the close-up photos, the color brightens or darkens depending on which way the pile is brushed. There is no black and no cool tone anywhere in the palette, which makes the rug sit easily with oak, walnut, leather and off-white walls.

Tibetan Weaving and Build Quality

Tibetan weaving uses the loop and cut method, where the yarn is wrapped around a rod across the warps and then cut, producing a pile that is noticeably plush and springy underfoot rather than tightly clipped. You can see that depth in the rolled-edge photograph: a thick, even pile with a clean, hand-finished selvage and a firm cotton foundation visible at the folded corner. Highland wool is long-stapled and high in lanolin, which is why the ivory ground holds its luster and resists soiling, and the silk accents are carved just slightly lower than the wool so the motifs sit in gentle relief. At 8'9" x 12' this belongs with our 9x12 area rugs, the size that anchors a full seating group with all 4 legs of the furniture on the rug. It has never been laid, and the pile is untouched.

Ask about this rug

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
