8' x 10' Jaipur Wool Rug | Black All Over Floral Field | Olive Green Border | Brand New
This is a brand new, hand-knotted Jaipur rug in a true room size, 8' x 10', with a dense 100% wool pile on a cotton foundation and a pattern that reads as formal without feeling heavy. The black field is the first thing you notice: it is genuinely dark, not a near-navy, and it pushes every gold, beige and soft turquoise blossom forward so the drawing stays legible from across the room. The olive green main border is unusual and is what makes this piece collectible rather than generic, since most black-ground floral rugs are bordered in red or ivory. It ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming it as a hand-knotted Oriental rug, never used, with full pile and clean, original ends and sides.
Design and Motifs
The field is an all over floral composition rather than a single medallion layout, built on a thin brown vine that curls and reconnects across the whole 8' x 10' surface. Inside that lattice sit large rosettes with layered beige and gold petals, serrated acanthus leaves, small lotus blossoms and a repeated beige panel motif filled with tiny turquoise arrowheads and red florets, which you can see clearly in the close-up detail. The repeat is drawn with just enough asymmetry to confirm the weaver worked from a cartoon by hand, and the small outlined buds scattered between the big flowers keep the black ground from ever looking empty. Three borders frame the field: a narrow gold guard carrying red-centered rosettes, the wide olive green main border with its big palmettes and curling leaves, and an outer rosette band, all separated by fine burgundy outlines.
Black Ground, Olive Green Border and Gold Accents
The color story here is restrained and deliberate. The ground is a deep, even black with a faint brown warmth in the wool where the light catches the pile, so it sits comfortably with walnut floors and dark furniture instead of reading as a flat void. Against it the flowers run through warm gold, camel, wheat beige and cream, with small passages of sage and olive in the leaves, muted turquoise in the flower centers and tight burgundy outlines that sharpen every shape. The main border is a soft dusty olive green, closer to sage than to emerald, which bridges the black field and the honey gold guard stripe on either side of it. Ivory fringe at both ends finishes the rug cleanly. Among 8x10 Persian and Oriental rugs, this black and olive combination is one of the easier ones to decorate around, since it anchors a room without dictating a single accent color.
Jaipur Weaving and Quality
Jaipur, in Rajasthan, is one of the main centers of fine hand-knotted weaving in India today, and India is now where most of the world's best contemporary hand-knotted work is produced. This rug shows why: the knotting is tight and regular, the horizontal rows sit straight, the wool is spun well enough to hold a clear outline only one or two knots wide, and the finishing of the ends and selvedges is neat and symmetrical. The back photo shows an even, firm weave with no bulges or pulled rows, and the pile has the slightly glossy handle of good highland wool rather than the dry feel of a cheap commercial carpet-grade yarn. The attached workshop tag identifies it as rug PIX-3632 in the 8 x 10 size. For a buyer who wants the look and construction of a traditional city rug in a brand new piece with its full pile ahead of it, this is a well-made, honest example.
