8' x 10' Turkish Rug | Hereke Design All-Over Floral | Beige & Coral | Perfect Condition

A clean, confident Turkish weave in one of the most usable sizes we sell. The field is a warm ivory beige, drawn edge to edge with angular blossoms and serrated leaves, and it is framed by a wide coral border that gives the whole piece its warmth. The pile is hand-knotted wool on a cotton foundation, the handle is firm without being stiff, and the condition is exactly what the photographs show: full pile, crisp drawing, straight sides and the original hang tag still fixed to the back (rug no. 5579). As an Oriental rug at a true room size, it sits naturally under a sofa group or a dining table, and it ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming the origin, materials and hand-knotted construction.

Design and Motifs

The drawing is all-over rather than medallion led, built on a soft taupe vine lattice that runs the full length of the field. Inside that lattice sit large serrated palmettes in brick red with pale blue centers, long saw-edged lancet leaves in slate and powder blue, small tulip and carnation heads, and scattered diamond rosettes that fill the ground without crowding it. A single small octagonal rosette, coral and blue with an ivory heart, marks the center and gives the eye somewhere to land. The main coral border carries shield cartouches with 8 petal star flowers alternating with round blue blossoms and hooked vine arms, and it is held on both sides by narrow blue-gray guard bands of linked X motifs and cream rosettes. Corners are resolved cleanly, which is a good sign of a drawn cartoon rather than an improvised village copy, and the design reads well from any of the 4 sides.

A Beige Field With Coral, Brick Red and Soft Blue

The ground is a light beige that leans toward cream in daylight and toward sand under lamplight, so the rug brightens a room instead of darkening it. Against that field the palette is deliberately warm: coral and terracotta in the border, a deeper brick red in the palmettes and blossoms, and rust outlines that pull the two reds together. The counterweight is blue, used in two distinct values, a chalky powder blue in the leaf spines and star flowers and a deeper slate blue in the guard bands and a few of the larger leaves. Taupe, soft brown and pale olive appear in the vine work, with ivory outlining almost every motif so the shapes stay legible. The close-up of the back shows the same colors carried cleanly through the knot, and the fringe and selvage are natural ivory. It is a friendly, low-contrast color story that works with warm whites, walnut, cane and brass, and it suits buyers browsing 8x10 area rugs who want color without a dark field.

Hereke Design and Turkish Weaving Quality

Hereke is a town on the Sea of Marmara east of Istanbul, home to the imperial manufactory founded in 1843 to supply the Ottoman court, and its name has stood for careful drawing and disciplined finishing in Turkish weaving ever since. This piece is a wool Hereke design rug rather than a fine silk one: the knot count is a workshop floor-rug count, chosen so the wool pile stays thick and the rug wears for decades, while the cartoon keeps the precision the name implies. The Turkish double knot, tied on a cotton warp and weft, produces the dense, squared-off handle you can feel at the corners, and the pile has the slight sheen of good highland fleece. Sides are hand-overcast, ends are secured and evenly fringed, and the rug lies flat without waves, which is what you want in a room size that will carry furniture. You can see more of this style across our Oriental rugs collection.

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
