8' x 8' Round Oriental Rug | Wool & Silk Tabriz Floral Design | New, Never Used

A true round at 8' x 8', hand-knotted in a wool and silk blend, with an ivory field carried right to a deep red floral border. Round rugs of this diameter are far harder to find than rectangles, because the weaver has to keep the drawing concentric and the circle honest from the first knot to the last, and this one sits flat and perfectly circular with clean white fringe all the way around. The silk in the pile catches light along the vine scrolls and the blossom centers, giving the surface a quiet two-tone shimmer that shifts as you walk past it. It has never been used, the pile is full, and it ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming it as a hand-knotted piece.

Please Note About the Photographs:

The first overhead photograph was shot under bright studio light and reads paler and slightly oval through the camera lens. The close-up images taken on the floor show the true tones: a warm ivory field, a saturated deep red border, and olive green, gold and pink in the flowers. The rug itself is a true circle.

Design and Motifs

The field follows the classic Tabriz all-over floral formula, adapted to a circle. A single rosette sits at the exact center, and from it thin scrolling vines radiate outward in repeating rings, each one hung with large serrated palmettes, 8 petal rosettes, small tulip forms and tiny hooked leaves. Because the layout is radial rather than linear, the design reads correctly from every seat in the room, which is exactly what you want under a round table or in a rotunda entry. Look closely at the drawing and you can see how much detail the weaver packed into each blossom: outlined petals, a contrasting heart, and a shaded edge that gives the flower depth instead of flatness. The border system is made up of 5 bands, a wide main border of linked palmettes and vines framed by narrow guard stripes with their own running floral meander, finished with a thin reciprocal line at the outer edge.

The Ivory, Red and Olive Green Palette

The ground is a warm ivory, closer to soft cream than stark white, and it is the reason the rug lightens a room rather than anchoring it heavily. Against that ground the flowers are worked in olive and sage green, antique gold, soft rose pink, pale blue and a near-black navy used for outlining, so the palette stays muted and the shapes still read sharply. The main border flips the balance: a deep red, almost wine colored ground with ivory and gold palmettes laid across it, separated from the field by pale grey-green guard stripes that cool the transition and keep the red from bleeding visually into the ivory. The silk picks up light in the lighter tones, which is why the gold and ivory flowers look brighter from one direction and softer from the other. It is a palette that works with cream walls, warm wood floors and both traditional and transitional furniture.

Origin and Weaving Quality

This is an honest made in China piece, hand-knotted on a cotton foundation in a workshop that weaves in the Tabriz tradition, following the same curvilinear floral cartoon that made that design famous. The quality tells on the back and at the edges: a tight, even weave with no drawn-in or wandering outlines, a close-clipped pile that holds the fine detail in the flower heads, and hand-finished selvedges with knotted fringe. An Oriental rug of this type is judged first on knot density and drawing, because curved vines and small blossoms simply collapse into blur on a coarse loom, and here the detail holds at close range. The wool and silk blend adds sheen and resilience, and at 8 feet across this round is substantial enough to define a seating group or fill a circular foyer on its own.

Ask about this rug

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
