9'2" x 12'8" Persian Kashan Rug | Signed Ivory Field All-Over Floral | Fine Wool Pile in Excellent Condition

This one is a signed Kashan in ivory rather than the deep red field most buyers picture when they hear the name, and that single decision changes how the rug behaves in a room. The weaver's cartouche sits in the border, which in Kashan practice means the piece came off a named workshop loom rather than a village one. Construction is the classic town formula: a cotton foundation carrying a dense 3/8" wool pile, tight straight sides, and a field drawn as one continuous floral composition with no central medallion. Condition is excellent, with even pile from end to end and clean, well-kept ends. Design and Motifs

The field is an all-over floral design built from mirrored rows of palmettes, eight and six petal rosettes, tulip and pomegranate forms, and serrated leaves, all strung on a fine curling vine that never breaks. At the exact center sits a small sky blue rosette with a gold heart, ringed by radiating lancet leaves, so the eye still finds a focal point without a full medallion taking over the floor. The drawing works outward in concentric rings from that point, which is why the rug photographs almost like a rosette window when seen from above. Framing it are 5 bands: a narrow outer stripe, a blossom meander guard, the wide main border of alternating palmettes and rosettes on a pale ground, an inner guard of reciprocal light blue devices, and the fine dividing lines between them. The corners resolve cleanly, with the border pattern turning the corner without a break in the vine, a detail that separates workshop drafting from copied graph paper.

The Ivory and Blue Palette

The ground is a warm ivory, closer to unbleached cream than white, and it keeps a soft wool luster under light rather than going flat. Against it the drawing is outlined in a dark indigo navy, which gives the pattern its definition, while the interior fills move through powder and sky blue, a pale lavender blue, and a clear mustard gold that carries most of the warmth. Small camel and cinnamon browns appear in the vine stems and leaf tips, and there are pinpoint brick red accents inside the flower centers, just enough to keep the palette from reading cool overall. The wide main border shifts to a blush toned ivory, a half step warmer than the field, so the border is legible as a frame without a hard color break. The guard stripes are where the light blue is strongest, a band of clean sky blue reciprocal motifs that reads almost turquoise in the border close-up. Kashan Weaving and Workshop Quality

Kashan sits in central Persia, north of Isfahan, and its looms trace back to the Safavid court workshops, which is why the town's output has always been judged on drawing and wool rather than on tribal character.
