Design and Motifs

The center holds a perfectly round medallion, ringed in copper and filled with an 8 petal rosette surrounded by small lancet leaves and half palmettes. The 4 corners carry quarter repeats of the medallion motif, so the design resolves cleanly rather than running off the edge. Framing it all is a 3 part border system: a wide copper main border of alternating palmettes and cartouches, an ivory guard stripe of small blossoms and paisleys, and a black outer band that finishes at the cotton fringe. A Black Ground Worked in Gold, Copper and Sage
