9'5" x 12'3" Signed Persian Rug | Burgundy All-Over Floral with Navy Medallion | Woven Cartouche

This is a signed workshop piece: a hand-knotted Persian rug woven in the 2000's in fine natural wool on a cotton foundation, with the weaver's cartouche worked in ivory script into the red band at the top of the field. The field reads burgundy from a distance and breaks into dozens of separate colors up close, anchored by a small navy medallion with an ivory and cherry red core. Design and Motifs

The drawing is a classic medallion and spandrel layout laid over a true all-over floral design, which is a harder thing to pull off than it sounds. The vine system never stops: thin ivory stems curl end to end across the field, carrying palmettes, serrated leaves, fan-shaped blossoms and small rosettes that mirror across the center axis without ever repeating exactly. The medallion itself is compact rather than dominating, a navy lobed form with pendant finials top and bottom, holding an ivory cartouche and a small red center with an 8 petal rosette at its heart. The 4 corner spandrels answer it in the same navy, filled with ivory arabesque scrollwork and flowering sprays. Three borders frame the whole thing: a wide navy main border of alternating palmettes and rosettes, flanked by red and ivory guard stripes that keep the eye moving around the perimeter instead of stopping at the edge.

A Burgundy Field Carrying a Full Spectrum

The ground is a deep cherry burgundy, cool rather than orange, and it holds its tone across the entire 12'3" length with no visible abrash banding. Against it the palette is remarkably wide for a formal rug: indigo and mid blue in the medallion and borders, clean ivory in the vinework and spandrels, olive and grass green in the leaves, rose pink and soft peach in the blossoms, gold and mustard in the small rosettes, plus flashes of turquoise, orange and dark aubergine that only register when you are standing over it. Ivory is the organizing color here, outlining stems and petals so the pattern stays legible instead of dissolving into red. In daylight the burgundy warms and the greens come forward; under lamplight the navy deepens and the ivory reads almost cream, which makes this a rug that changes character between afternoon and evening.

Persian Weaving and the Signed Cartouche

A signature means a workshop, not a village loom. Weavers sign when the piece was made to a drawn cartoon under a master's name and the shop is willing to be identified by the result, and the evidence is in the rug: symmetrical curved lines that resolve cleanly at the medallion pendants, borders that turn the corners properly instead of being cut off, and a fine enough knot to render a 5 color blossom the size of a thumbnail. The back photograph shows tight, regular knotting on a cotton foundation with straight, unbroken warp lines, which is why the rug lies flat and square across its full 9'5" width. The wool is natural and lustrous, sheared low so the pattern stays crisp, and dense enough underfoot to take real household traffic in a dining room or main living space for decades.
