9'6" x 13' Persian Tabriz Rug | Raspberry Red Boteh Field | Navy Medallion | Excellent Condition

A true room size piece at 9'6" x 13', this Tabriz is hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation with a 3/8" pile that still stands full and even across the whole field, corner to corner. The drawing is classic workshop Tabriz: a single crowned medallion floating on an open raspberry red ground, four navy spandrels, and a wide navy main border framed by camel gold guard stripes. It is the kind of size that finally fills a large living room or a 10 seat dining table without the furniture crowding the pattern, and it sits comfortably among our 10x13 Persian rugs. Design and Motifs

The center holds a layered star medallion built out from an 8 petal rosette, ringed by ivory cartouches, navy lobes and small pink blossoms, then finished top and bottom with an upright cresting pendant. Around it the field is worked in a loose, breathing all over arrangement rather than a packed one: boteh forms with curled tips, long serrated leaves, palmette heads and small bouquets of blue and green flowers, all connected by pale ivory vine scrolls that whip into tight spirals near the corners. The 4 spandrels repeat the medallion vocabulary in navy so the composition reads as one idea instead of two. The border system runs 7 bands deep. The wide navy main border alternates leafy wreath cartouches with ivory and pink flower clusters, the camel gold guard stripes carry a small running boteh, and the outer minor bands keep a fine reciprocal edge that stops the pattern cleanly at the red selvage.

Raspberry Red, Navy Blue and Ivory

The field color is the reason this rug stops people: a saturated raspberry red that leans pink in daylight and deepens toward cherry under lamplight, with the faint natural striation of good hand-dyed wool running across the open ground. Against it the navy is almost inky, used for the medallion core, the spandrels and the main border so the composition has real weight at the edges. Ivory does the drawing work, outlining vines, cartouches and leaf tips so every motif separates cleanly from the red. Then come the accents: camel gold in the guard stripes and in a scatter of leaf forms, soft rose and hot pink in the flower heads, sky blue and a quiet bottle green in the smaller blossoms, and touches of rust in the corner palmettes. It is a warm, high contrast palette that works with mahogany and walnut furniture, cream walls, and brass or antique gold lighting.

Tabriz Weaving and Workshop Quality

Tabriz sits in the northwest corner of Persia and has been the country's most organized weaving city for centuries, working from a drawn cartoon on a fixed loom, which is why the curved lines here stay true over 13 feet of length and the medallion sits perfectly centered rather than drifting. Tabriz fineness is counted in Raj, the number of knots across a gereh of roughly 2.75 inches, and workshops grade their output on that scale from commercial weaves up to the 60 and 70 Raj collector pieces. This rug is a solid mid-weight workshop weave, tight enough to carry the small boteh and vine detail you see in the close-ups, and built on the heavy cotton warp and weft that keeps a rug of this size flat on the floor. The wool is the durable sheep fleece of the region, spun with enough lanolin that the pile has visible sheen where the light crosses it, and the pile is still full with no exposed foundation, no repairs and no low areas.
