This is a brand new, never used hand-knotted Oriental rug woven in the Chotan tradition, measuring 9' x 11'9" with a soft sky blue field and 2 large ivory roundels set along the center axis. The wool is hand-spun and the pile is cut low and even, which is what lets the drawing stay crisp across a field this wide. It reads calm from across the room and detailed up close, and at 9' x 11'9" it covers a standard seating group with all 4 furniture legs on the rug. Design and Motifs

The Chotan layout is built on compartments rather than a single central medallion, and this weaving follows that logic closely. Two large ivory roundels anchor the field, each filled with 8 petal rosettes, small heart shaped leaves and a thin connecting vine that loops between them. Between and around the roundels sit rows of octagonal tan and ivory panels carrying cross shaped rosettes, flanked by hooked scroll forms, small triangles and leaf blades that fill the open blue ground. The borders do the heavy structural work: a wide ivory band of stepped key fretwork runs the full perimeter, framed inside and out by camel guard stripes of alternating triangles. The result belongs squarely with the best geometric rugs, drawn in straight lines and right angles with an all over repeating pattern that never crowds the field.

A Sky Blue Field with Ivory, Tan and Camel

The field is a pale sky blue with a faint abrash, the natural tonal shift that comes from hand-spun wool taking dye at slightly different rates, so the ground breathes rather than sitting flat. Against it, the 2 roundels and the compartment panels are a warm ivory to soft cream, and the motifs inside them are drawn in tan, camel and a muted apricot with occasional touches of faded mauve and dusty rose. The main border is ivory outlined in a soft brick brown, while the outer guard band shifts to a deeper camel gold with pale blue triangle accents that tie back to the field. There is no hard black and no saturated red anywhere in the palette, which is why the rug reads so quietly: it is a blue rug for rooms with grey, white, oatmeal or natural oak, and it sits comfortably with both contemporary and traditional furniture.

Woven in Peshawar, Pakistan

Peshawar is the center of the Chobi weaving trade, and its workshops have spent decades reviving older Central Asian and Chotan drawings using hand-spun wool and softened natural dye tones. This piece shows that workmanship clearly: a cotton foundation, tight even knotting visible on the back, straight selvages, hand-tied fringes and a low clipped pile that keeps the fretwork sharp. Hand-spun yarn gives the surface a slight irregularity that machine-spun wool cannot copy, and it is the reason the color has depth instead of looking printed.
