9' x 12' Oriental Wool and Silk Rug | Tabriz Floral Medallion Design | Made in Pakistan

This is a brand new, never used hand-knotted room size piece in the classic workshop format: a deep red field, a cream and rose medallion at center, beige corner spandrels and a wide navy main border. The pile blends wool with silk, and you can see the difference in the photographs, where the silk-drawn flowers and vine lines catch the light while the wool ground stays matte and deep. Design and Motifs

The drawing follows the Tabriz medallion and corner formula, one of the most copied and hardest to execute layouts in the trade. A scalloped 16 lobe medallion sits dead center, filled with an 8 petal rosette and a ring of small roses, and it is outlined twice, first in navy and then in a fine ivory line that keeps it crisp against the red. Four beige spandrels close the corners with their own bouquets and cypress-like sprays, each pair mirrored exactly. Between them the field is not empty ground: it is a full all-over lattice of curved vines carrying roses, palmettes, lotus heads and serrated leaves, with two small navy pendants above and below the medallion. The main border runs a navy ribbon of scrolling vine punctuated by ivory cartouche rosettes, framed by paired guard stripes in ivory and soft blue-green, and the outer edge finishes in plain red with tightly overcast selvages and clean cotton fringe at both ends.

Deep Red Ground with Navy, Cream and Garden Greens

The field reads as a deep true red with a burgundy undertone, dark enough to anchor a room but never brown or muddy, and the silk content gives it a subtle shift between lighter and darker red depending on where you stand. The main border is a saturated navy blue that is almost black in the shadowed photographs and clearly blue in the overhead shots. Against those two heavy colors the palette opens up: cream and ivory outlines, warm beige in the spandrels and guard stripes, rose pink and raspberry in the flower heads, sky and denim blue in the smaller blossoms, and several greens, from soft sage in the leaf work to a deeper bottle green in the vine. Small touches of peach and gold appear in the rosette centers. It is a warm, formal color story that works with dark wood, cream upholstery and brass, and it hides traffic in a way pale rugs cannot.

Weaving, Origin and Quality

This rug was hand-knotted in Pakistan, where weavers have worked in the classical city patterns for generations and where a great deal of the world's finest new floral work is now produced. It is a true Oriental rug, knotted one row at a time on a cotton foundation, never tufted, glued or machine made. The back photograph shows an even, tight grid with legible knot nodes and no slack rows, which is what allows the curved vine lines and the fine double outlining in the medallion to hold their shape at this scale. The pile is clipped low and level so the pattern stays sharp, and the wool and silk blend gives the surface both durability underfoot and a quiet sheen. Condition is perfect: this piece has never been on a floor, the fringe is full and untrimmed, the edges are straight and the colors are at full strength.
