9' x 12' Zigler Oriental Rug | Beige Field with Golden Tan Palmettes | New Wool Pile

This 9' x 12' Zigler rug is a new, never used piece, hand-knotted entirely by hand in wool on a cotton foundation and finished with hand-tied cotton fringe at both ends. The drawing is the softened all-over Zigler style that decorators keep coming back to: a calm beige ground, large golden tan palmette cartouches set in offset rows, and a wide ivory border carrying star rosettes. It is one of the most usable of all 9x12 Oriental rugs, large enough to carry a full seating group or a 10 seat table while staying quiet underfoot. Every rug we sell ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming that it is hand-knotted, along with its measurements, materials and origin.

Please Note About the Photographs:

The studio photograph reads slightly warmer than the showroom floor shots, which were taken under cooler light; the true tone sits between the two. The faint vertical line visible in one close-up is a storage fold from stacking on the pallet, not wear, fade or damage. It relaxes once the rug is laid flat, and every rug is professionally steamed and pressed before it leaves our warehouse.

Design and Motifs

The field is a true all over design with no central medallion, so the pattern repeats evenly from end to end and the rug can be turned or placed in either direction. Broad golden tan cartouches, each filled with a small rosette and curled ivory leaflets, sit in staggered rows and are linked by thick rust red vine scrolls that open into sage green serrated leaves, lotus heads and small tulip buds. Between them the weaver placed slender flowering stems and paired cloud scrolls, the kind of relaxed, slightly oversized drawing that defines the Zigler style. The main border is wide and generous: large star rosettes in olive green and rust alternate with hooked motifs and four petal blossoms, framed on both sides by a narrow guard stripe of rosettes on a sage ground and an outer reciprocal line in rust. The pile is cut to a medium height, which keeps the outlines crisp while letting the wool catch light across the field.

A Beige and Golden Tan Palette

The ground is a warm beige that moves between oatmeal and soft ivory depending on the angle of the light, with the gentle tonal striping that comes from hand-spun, small batch dyed wool. Against it the palmettes read as golden tan and honey camel, shaded toward apricot at their centers and outlined in a clear rust red that holds the whole composition together. The secondary color is a muted olive sage, used for leaves, rosette grounds and the inner guard stripe, and it cools the gold just enough to keep the rug from turning yellow in a sunny room. Small accents of true red, soft salmon pink, ivory and a deep brown olive appear in the blossom centers and rosette tips. The border carries a slightly lighter cream ground than the field, which frames the pattern and makes the rug sit comfortably with white trim, wood floors, grey stone and natural linen upholstery.

Woven in Pakistan: Weaving Town and Quality

Pakistan, and in particular the weaving workshops around Lahore and Peshawar, is where much of the world's best traditional Zigler weaving is now done, and this is a confident example of that work. Each knot is tied by hand on a vertical loom over a cotton warp and weft, then beaten down row by row, which is why the reverse shows an even, tightly packed grid with no slack or buckling and why the rug lies dead flat. The wool is well spun and resilient, with the dry springy handle that wears in rather than wears out, and the selvages are wrapped by hand while the fringe is knotted directly from the warp. For a buyer comparing this against city workshop pieces, the honest description is a finely drawn, durable new Oriental rug built for daily life in a large room, in perfect condition and never used.
